Oriental Gamefowl Thread!

If you don't want to deal with the proper breeding of games, nobody is forcing you to own them. Trying to start trouble on here doesn't accomplish anything. Anyone that is well versed in the breed "Shamo" for example, would understand that if it isn't game, it isn't a Shamo. Gameness is a huge part of the breed, and if it's not there, they are a poor excuse for the breed, no matter how good they look. Also the SOP is for poultry shows, Oriental games have been around long before that was even written.

I would like to see this thread continue, because these breeds are beautiful to look at and do have a value.............................. though neither their aggressive nature towards each other nor their gameness supports that value. You, and several other people on here, seem to be
implying you are breeding them for the purpose of maintaining the willingness to fight to the death [game]. Exactly why is this trait so important in what you consider "proper" breeding of the orientals? True, it, and the ability to kill other game birds, were the traits necessary for the cruel "sport" of pit fighting; but thankfully it's now banned by law in civilized nations [though several people on this thread have made statements that seem to indicate they don't agree with that ban].

Personnally, I would prefer the thread closed rather than see those veiled statments supporting breeding birds for their ability to fight to continue.

BTW Walt, I wasn't dissing on your Asils, just trying to explain about how an aggressive rooster can act game, but not be game. I know a few with KO's, and they all tell me the same thing, they have aggressive attitudes to other fowl, but not full on game. They are some cool little dudes though for bantams for sure.

Sadly, I confess I know too much about breeding "game" into a breed from my own past. However, I'm always willing to learn, so perhaps you or somone else can explain why any breed of chicken needs this trait, and just how do you test your breeding stock for it? .

Didn't take it that way Cuda. I just thought it was a funny experience. The KO's are really cool birds, but I can run them together .....for the most part, so I know they are not game.

RE: the recent trolling on this thread. Somewhere in the beginning of this thread the Mods posted something like. "if you don't like it go to another thread or we will consider it trolling" I'm too lazy to look it up, but it is posted somewhere in the beginning of this thread.

Do you have any updated pics of your whites you acquired? One of my hens is still broody...determined gal for sure! Oh, I finally saw the shamo topping one of the araucanas...he stood with his feet on the ground on either side of her...determination. I wondered how he managed as I noticed the eggs were fertile.

Peddler... I am new here. But I too was given my first true and good Asil from a very reputable and honorable Asil breeder. I, like Illia am proud to be preserving ancient bloodlines and learning to keep them pure and true to their characteristics. One thing I have also found, is breeders of certain fowl and poultry also seem to have their own set of characteristics, aware of it or not. Several of those characteristics I have observed in the Asil / Aseel and Oriental folks is honor and respect. The bloodlines of the Asil and many oriental breeds could not have survived without it. You will never find a true Asil breeder Peddling their fine birds. But they will gift a new comer a fine bird to help get them started if they see the true love and respect in your heart for the bloodline. I'm not sure who or what bird or bloodline you claim to represent Peddler, but you are not bringing honor or respect to yourself or them. Often in life we do best to keep quiet at least until we have a clue what we are talking about. I am new here and a novice at any type of game or oriental fowl, yet it is obvious even to me, you have no knowledge of the things your are talking about. You are just being aggressive and disrespectful. So why not chill, listen and learn from those that have some real and value able knowledge to share. You have nothing to loose and everything to gain from that.

Wow, white Shamos. Truly magnificent. A little lower tail angle though and they're just perfect.

Let’s all try and keep the topic on fowl in this thread. When you use words like morality and civilized it smell of condescension and gives the impression that you somehow are on a moral high ground. However it always seems that those are the folks with the most to hide and the last that should be giving advice on being civilized or morality. Don’t mistake this for a personal attack on you but keep your judgments be it what they may be to yourself.
