Ornamental Layer Collection by Murray McMurray

I really do not understand why so many are getting so upset about this. He was only inquiring about a hatchery listing. I read about it my catalog and it does sound interesting

Because someone took the term 'ornamental' to an extreme... it is simply a way to differentiate a specific group of breeds from egg layer or meat production breeds...

I raise and breed Ohiki myself, they're classed as an ornamental breed, but they're far from 'just a pretty face'... they're one of my most favorites, they just don't lay an egg 'every day'...

I had to head over to the website to take a look at this "ornamental" chicken selection.

It's definitely just breeds that are more "rare" or ones that have more unique markings (mottled, lacing, ect). I believe its just due to the physical appearance of the bird they pegged it as "ornamental" and I doubt there was any malicious intent behind it.

I don't see any issue with selecting chickens based on which are prettiest, assuming they're treated well. It also seems reasonable to classify some chickens as "ornamental" if people are likely to keep them more for appearance than for the eggs. There's nothing wrong with keeping animals for their aesthetic value, as long as the animals are given proper care.
