I saw some hooded crows again yesterday. While they may not be rare here, they're new to me and so I'm fascinated.

This came up in my “memories” section on my photo app and I thought it was worth sharing. It might be one of my favourite photos even now, despite being years since I took it.

Fun fact: I took it through a window. I’m surprised the glass wasn’t visible.

From March, a red-shouldered hawk, and blue jays mobbing it, of course My ever reliable natural alarm system

I watched it for a good 10 minutes before the jays discovered it and drove it off. It was preening here.

It's possible that the pair of jays going after the hawk were Linnie and her mate. She's very dominant over here, loud, and brave. I've never seen her take crap from another jay and I doubt she'd take any from a hawk in her territory, either!
