OSB Coop Roofing Mistake

That’s great!!
I’ve seen lots of builders not used tar paper on residential homes , I don’t recommend it for the tar paper is needed.
I have reroof a few 20+years later ( may have been a 20 or 25 yr warranty) they weren’t leaking or looking to good.
These homes also had OSB , so I wouldn’t worry to much about no paper (on a coop).Add the drip edge and you should be fine.
Depending on the setup you have on the roofing overhanging the sheathing? You might not cover all the drip edge when you install it as it can only slide in under the roofing so far before you hit the decking ( OSB).
I’m in the northeast, so four seasons here.

You can always go over it later down the road.
You have a good pitch.
Did you put a starter course on drip edge?

Thank you for your reply! Our shingles only hang over the OSB sheathing by about 1"- I'm not sure what the standard overhang is. We didn't lay a proper starter course, but instead doubled up on the 3-tab shingles on both eaves.

I wish I would have done more research before getting so impatient! :(

You should still be able to get a drip edge to slip in under shingle. Go around all 4 sides. I've done it several times but most times you have to make a notch for a roofing nail thats hidden under the shingle.

When you get the drip edge slipped in fully, since there isn't any real way to nail it, lift up the edge of the shingle and black jack or silicone the drip edge and press the shingle back down on the drip edge to glue them together and you're good to go.

Thank you! I'll look into installing a drip edge ASAP. I've never taken part in any roofing projects before- do you know how much it might cost me? The coop is relatively small at 4x6.

Not sure I'd try it unless it's warm out....might crack the asphalt shingles lifting them up.

Can you post a pic.
Is water dripping off 1" shingle overhang or running underneath?

We currently have a tarp over the roof as there have been heavy rains/high winds this week. The freezing cold temps have definitely made the shingles rigid, so I will wait on installing the 4" drip edge for now. Hopefully the tarp can protect things until then!

I wonder the same. Having a weak 1 inch shingle overhang is not ideal, but if the water is not running back under the overhang to soak the OSB, much less of an urgent issue.

If I may- what is the ideal shingle overhang (with & without drip edge)? I haven't removed the tarp yet to find out how water is flowing off- I'm afraid to! LOL

It's about 1.5" over on the gable ends and just under 1" over the eaves.

I usually don't like any more than 1/2" of shingle to freely hang over, but some people use more. Too much and the shingle will sag when it gets hot and wind is more likely to get under it. Wait until you get your drip egde installed, then see how much over hang you have before you go cutting it off. But just guessing you'll be ok without having to trim any shingles.
