OT: Piercing questions

Quote:
I did that in high school... used safety pins to pierce my ears. I still have one of the holes, but I let the others heal up. I had 5 holes in one ear and 3 in the other. Now I just have 2 in one ear and 3 in the other (maybe 4 still, I just never wear earrings, so it could have closed up by now). I've had my lobes pierced since I was 5.

I didn't know the upper part called the helix, but I have that pierced on my left ear. As I recall it took a while to heal up, even though I had it done "professionally". I've had it done for about 10 years.

I wish I could have met you Saturday. You would have been surprised at how normal I am after reading these posts.

(And no one can really see the helix most of the time b/c my hair is over it, I just have it for me. :) Something I wanted for months and finally got to celebrate my new job.)

DH and I do not have tattoos either.

Be careful with your hair too! My hair used to get behind the ring and when I moved my hair behind my ear it would pull a little at the piercing and hurt like a you know what!

What really drives me nuts, though, is people who have studs coming out of their face, nose rings connected to ear rings, etc who then complain that 'people JUDGE me because of the way I look'. Clue people, you will ALWAYS be judged by the way you look. That's human nature.

I know what you mean. People judge people all the time. I personally try not to judge anyone by the way they look. Who am I to judge?! But there are millions of people out there who do judge people by the way they look, piercings..tattoos...just their looks in general. You can't get away from it. It's sad really but you have to ignore the ignorant learn to love yourself for you.

My sister and myself were born in the early 70's - we had long hair - until we saw Dorothy Hamil (sp?) ice skating and we both wanted our hair cut short like hers. My Dad just about died, he said we looked like BOYS and basically demanded that we get our ears pierced so people would know that we were girls.

I laugh about this now, because that use to be the way that you could tell little girls from little boys. - I went to WalMart the other day and there was a little boy about 6 years old with long hair and his ears were both pierced. He was very cute, but I think he might be teased by others.

I stepped on a nail once.
I don't see the fun.
The nose things just bug me. I can't stop staring at them. A checkout girl at the local store has one. Makes me just want to reach out and pluck it off.

I guess I'm not very P/C.

I'm not into tongue rings, nose rings, or rings anywhere else, but I do have two lobe ear piercings. I got my first on my first birthday (I thank my parents for making this decision! Those piercings have healed so well and I always loved wearing earrings when I was little.) The second set I got a few years ago. Those healed very quickly, but I have trouble putting the earring in because the hole is "tighter" or something. They never close up, but I always have to find the hole after periods of no earrings.

I have thought about a helix, but I'm happy with the four I have now.

I have my ears peirced but I never where any earings because they get all scabby and pussy and just really painfull. I want to get my nose pierced someday but I'm worried it would have the same reaction.

The scar tissue lumps are called keloids. you caan soak them in saline. as hot as you can handle for at least 15 min at a time.
Second never get pierced with a gun. Tiny particles blast back up into it and all they do is wipe it with an alcohol pad if you're lucky. It most always shatters your cartilige and will never heal.
About the earrings. Go to a piercing or tattoo shop and get steel. Im allergic to gold and everything cheap from anywhere else. The nose is very hard to heal. Ive tried it about 3 times. Be very dilligent with cleaning and make sure you pay the extra money for quality jewelry and a good piercer. If they do it even the slightest bit off it will keloid and that is not a fun thing to have on your face. Trust me. I had the nape of my neck done 5x and they all keloided. It looked like nipples on my neck! Hope that helped everyone....

I used Emu Oil on mine clear it up in two weeks. I got my navel bar bell caught up in a horse grain bag while I was lugging it into the barn. I applied the Emu Oil throughout the day every day (with washed hands).

Worked great I am now using the Emu oil on my HUGE UGLY scar from my two shoulder sugeries. It actually is taking down the puffiness in my scar as well.

Edited to add: I have both traguses pierced. They were getting so swollen when I first got them done. I had small hoops in them. They got so painful and irriated I went back to the body shop and she changed them out into little nose studs. If you get your tagus done get the nose stud put in. It really helps speed up the healing of it!
