OT-Quilting

MissPrissy, love the colors in your quilt! Those are the colors I typically use, though the pictures I could find wouldn't prove it.

I also suffer with my hands, my thumb (at the base) gets SO painful - not sure what the heck it is, but it makes me put down my knitting often! If I knit too long then the next day I'm in a lot of pain.

Knitters thumb!
I really hate that stop and start - once I get going I want to go go go..... if I put something down for too long - I dont' pick it up again or I lose that motivation!

I am only 13, but I tried quilting at a church sleepover. It was fun, but I don't have the patience to get really good. Probably something I will do when I am older though.

Beautiful Quilts All!!!!

I have been quilting for over 40 years, my mom did tayloring and I learned to sew by exposure I guess.

My DH used to say quilting was a strange art form. That quilters take perfectly good fabric and cut it all up and sew it back together again.

I have a stash that fills every spare space in the house.

About.com has a couple of decent quilting forums for beginners. Some quilting magazines have quilting instructions for beginners, or check with your local library for quilting ideas. Ours even carries magazines.

You can also look for quilting guilds in your area, many love having new quilters to share their passion.

This is a start of a full size top for a horse loving young lady. Her mom asked for the quilt for her birthday.

Nupine, there is a young teenaged girl here who is quilting. For the life of me I can't remember her name though.

Wildsky, I am working on a baby blanket for one of my husbands work mates. I do not like small blankets so i added to it half again as much as normal so it can be used for many years even for a toddler to sleep with. I am at the half way point. I am searching for the motivation to finish it this week if possible.

Yes, there is a quilting for dummies book, at least one. Head to the library!! That's what I did. I'm completely self taught, don't quilt a lot but I can enjoy it when I do because I know some of the why's and how's of how it all works. It will make a big difference if you use the right fabrics. You don't have to have expensive tools. Have fun! You may also find a local adult ed. class.
