OT-Quilting

I have a question about using the hoop when making a large quilt...Does it matter where you start? Somehow, I was thinking that y'all were using the large frames where the stitched portion was rolled up as you go. I don't know if that makes sense when I said that, but I guess y'all know what I mean.

"Eye for color"...you said it, MissPrissy, that's what makes some quilts really nice. I guess some people just have a gift.

I start in the middle of the quilt.

For those large roll up frames - you also have to start in the middle.

I prefer those frames over the round hoop when making a larger item - but for a full size or so I don't know if you can even GET em that big!!! ? ?

I never could get into knitting much....never could get my stitches even enough to suit me. I'll do a scarf with big needles once in while, but that's about it for knitting....Crocheting on the other hand I love to do. Seems like once I get going and the thumbs limber up I can go for quite a while. I love to make snowflakes. Every year for a long time I've crocheted all my neices and nephews a snowflake for Christmas.....a different pattern every year. Now the grandkids get them every year too. Maybe I'll post some pictures of my snowflakes.

I can crochet as well - but find going round and round very difficult -

I can't make a FLAT round - and will always end up with a CAP/CUP -

I don't go around and around. This pattern I am working on is back and forth.

Please do show us the snowflakes. Perhaps we could start another thread for crochet so we don't hijack this one from quilts.

I'm just the opposite. I can do some basic knitting and enjoy it but I can not crochet to save my soul. Just can't get the hang of it!

Maybe it's a left brain, right brain kind of thing.....most people I know can either do one or the other well, but not both.

I can do both. I prefer crochet. It is just one of my things. Crochet has a real home spum charm to it where knitting has become I don't know, something more, in many circles. Like the cool kids only knit and use only the best most expensive hand dyed, hand spun yarns etc. I have lost favor with knitting in the years past. Quilting is heading that way, too, for me. The 'specialty' fabrics at outrageous prices make it kind of not fun to make a quilt when just the fabrics cost over $100.
