OT... this is just so cool... UPDATE Pedigree added

I wish you the best of luck. My horses have brought me some much pleasure. Neither are rideable yet. Too young but there is so much other training that can be done in the mean time. I'm not an expert at all on horses but I do work mine everyday. Well when it's not raining! My yearling goes through the halter, hoof check, leading, and a few others every day. He likes the attention. He wants to be a people pleaser. My mare is 3 but she was in horrible condition when we got her. She is a bit sassy so gettin' her to do what you want is a bit harder. But I don't give in. I'm as stubborn as she is. The good thing about getting a colt is you know all their past. My mare bit me the other day so dh tied her to a snubbin' post. She broke her rope instantly. He got a bigger rope and she broke the post at the base! We talked to an expert and they said she must have been tied up and either abused or starved. She was almost starved to death when we got her. I would have never known because we didn't raise her from a baby. It does cost less in the long run to buy a broke full grown horse but I'd rather have a baby that I raised and know the past on! I feel safer! You are doing good by getting yours so young. And the pics are sooooo sweet. I just love baby horses.

I love all kinds of babies... Thats the problem. I love them and so do others but I learned to break the part in me that allows them to just stay babies. They grow up to be big lol... I grew up around loads of people who had horses. My neighbor had two mares and one had a baby it was so exciting for me to see. I am by nature a loner. So for me having a horse for a friend, requires a special training so he won't take over but will be steadfast and reliable.

I have had to retrain dogs and I know with the right temprament I can train a horse and what I can't do I can learn or find someone who can.

As far as gelding goes I don't mind that part what I do mind is the cost. So they may just end up studs based on the cost of having it done. I don't like vets right now but if I move I might have one who can do it without asking for my swiss bank account password to empty it. *just joking but its close* Our vet is asking 125$ to spay a cat I can't imagine the cost for gelding a horse.

I really don't want to go into another chat about vets. I am just saying around here they are unreasonable. If I even go 50 miles away they are so much cheaper. I have a vet in ozark that charges 45$ for spaying a cat I nuter my male cats myself. My son is taking me in his car with gets 20mpg. So for me thats an option. I may ask some questions there.

As far as training you can train a horse to cart before they are trained for riding and thats an option I would love to explore. A buggy ride in the evening would be awesome.

We have a neighbor that rides by in her cart (more like a covered buggy) everyonce in a while. It is sooooo cute. Our vet only charged us $160 to come out to the house and cut (neuter) the horse. Same for the donkey. I thought that was pretty reasonable. He had us give the horse a series of 2 shots before he came out. I believe it was for tetnus but I'm not sure. Then he came out and did it. Funny thing is the donkey saw the horse have it done about a year before. So when the vet showed up to do him he wouldn't let them catch him. I had to go out and get him and then when the vet and his tech tried to get close to give him the shot to knock him out my donkey went crazy. So I asked the vet if I could do the shot and where to do it. He said whatever was easier. I teased him that I did all the hard work so he should've knocked down the price!

We have spay neuter clinics here in this area. I'm getting 4 cats neutered for less than $100. They spayed my female rott for only $30! I love this place!

Horses are I think in many ways smarter than dogs. But exactly how I am not sure. Each have their own interesting attributes. For me I would love to have a cart horse, so if anyone knows where I can get a harness so I can do that let me know.

Usually, when you buy a cart horse, the horse will come with it's cart.
Horses are smarter than dogs, IMO. People just relate to dogs better because they are predetors like us. Horses are prey animals and it's hard for some people to think like a horse.

Congrats on the new babies!! I looooove QH's

I leased a beautiful Red Roan Foundation QH before my daughter was born and she was by far my favorite girl, great for bareback and the sweetest thing. Nice wide back and a big rear end, that's how I like my horses.

On gelding, just be glad they're not miniatures, my vet wouldn't touch my mini colt unless he was knocked out...total cost $400!!!!

OOOH... Arklady

I just looked at the stud's pedigree. You are gonna have a couple of well bred boys there. You got some running blood in there, with some excellent working horse bloodlines. Very nice!!!

I was extremely pleased to see Jet Deck in there. He was an awesome horse. Murdered at 11 years old. Sucks but he is a direct decendant of Man-O-War. Which is extremely cool heh...
