OUR CHICKS CAME EARLY, wait scratch that, our corpses came early =( -updated with pics-

From a Texas hatchery to Alaska is a long trip. This early in the year is always a gamble for ordering chicks. If you can't wait for better weather, you have to accept that a LOT of the chicks will most likely die.

Better luck next time.

I have chicks coming march 27th and im worried about this same thing happening to me......i live in Utah and there coming from meyer hatchery in Ohio and there all sensitive bantams should i cancel the order or is meyer pretty good about this kind of thing??

Sorry for your loss.
Idea has always been good to me when i had a problem ,i live in Texas so mine get here real quick and i have only lost one upon arrival in my last few orders.

I think the cold played a big part in their death and would advise waiting till it turned warmer if you can.
I know it is hard to wait but better to get them alive than dead just saying.

What kinda chicks did you order?

I've read a couple posts just today. Other people that have got chicks from Ideal recently have received them dead or some of the dead. I hope they get replaced too.

I don't mean to sound ugly because I know it is heartbreaking to receive a shipment of dead chicks. However, if the buyer does not have the forethought to NOT ORDER CHICKS in the dead of winter, it's really, REALLY unfair to blame the hatchery when they all show up dead. Mail trucks are NOT climate controlled, and they tell you this up front. I feel bad for hatcheries constantly having to "make it right" when buyers purchase in the most adverse of weather conditions!

Please .... and I cannot stress this enough .... wait until spring. It's really cruel to the chicks to ship them in the worst possible weather (i.e., December-February or June-August in most parts of the U.S.). The hatcheries will ship them when you order them, but really, it's unfair to blame them when you order in the dead of winter and expect any of them to arrive alive.

Ideal is a great hatchery and will make it right (I have ordered from them but NEVER EVER in adverse weather because that's just mean to the chicks being shipped).

Take a deep breath, CBL. It's Saturday morning - most "normal" people are still asleep. Even those of us that are awake aren't really awake!

I know, you're excited. Chick deliveries are like Christmas and Easter all rolled into one! Really rotten about the chicks that didn't make it - I hope you and Ideal can work this out to your satisfaction.

I wish I could help you identify your surviving chicks, but the best I can do is a guess at color (and you probably can do as well as I can with this!) Hopefully someone will be on here later that can help you, but remember - Saturdays are slow around here, you may not get a lot of action on this thread. Enjoy your little cheepers, my DD would be sooo jealous!
I know, its like on saturdays and stuff that my brains 10X faster then everyone else's
We contacted Ideal within their time limit so if they are a good hatchery they'll respond. I know not to blame them we did order in winter but we have ordered in winter with no more then 1 chick dead.

I just saw your 'normal' LOL so im not normal??

look at the pictures i listed them. But someone had a good point, most of the cold hardy breeds died and like the OEGB and moderns like thrived, i think 1 of those died.
