I don't mean to sound ugly because I know it is heartbreaking to receive a shipment of dead chicks. However, if the buyer does not have the forethought to NOT ORDER CHICKS in the dead of winter, it's really, REALLY unfair to blame the hatchery when they all show up dead. Mail trucks are NOT climate controlled, and they tell you this up front. I feel bad for hatcheries constantly having to "make it right" when buyers purchase in the most adverse of weather conditions!
Please .... and I cannot stress this enough .... wait until spring. It's really cruel to the chicks to ship them in the worst possible weather (i.e., December-February or June-August in most parts of the U.S.). The hatcheries will ship them when you order them, but really, it's unfair to blame them when you order in the dead of winter and expect any of them to arrive alive.
Ideal is a great hatchery and will make it right (I have ordered from them but NEVER EVER in adverse weather because that's just mean to the chicks being shipped).
