Our coop construction (lots of pictures!) Updated 9/26/08-Pg. 4 w/cost

I am a beek as well. I actually recognize your user name from some of the bee forums. I am known as bluegrass on them.

I have had chickens start eating bees and also ducks.
Usually they only do it once, but not always:)

I went through the receipts for the coop construction. I'm pretty sure we're finished for the most part, maybe a few trin pieces are still needed, but I'm talking $20 or so, not $200.

So far we've spent $1,568.15 in materials building the coop. Keep in mind it's 10x10, 30 year architectural shingles on the roof, low E glass windows (discounted), insulated, sheathed in and out with 1/2" plywood - and built to my specifications. We're pretty pleased with the cost. I'll be posting more pictures of the run we're in the process of building, and once the final touches are added.

If anyone wants to see a material list I've got the spreadsheet and can e-mail it to you. It's got pricing on it, but that's no doubt gone up even in these past few months!

That is an excellent coop and it will last for many years. The cost is not bad at all. I am at $1,000.00 on Eggtopia (12 x 12) and it is not insulated yet.

Hug DH he did a great job!

Update on this coop thread.
Hurricane Sandy hit the attached pen enclosure with a nice dead oak tree. Took out two fence post and ripped quite a bit of the chicken wire covering the top of it.
Those concrete blocks are STILL under the coop and it hasn't moved an inch since we built it.

Not much has changed since we built it. We're putting in solar lights sometime in the next few weeks. One inside and one for the outside so we can check for skunks and racoons at night BEFORE we open the door.
If we had to do it again I think we would've built a 12'x12' instead of a 10'x10'.

Wish the pictures in this thread hadn't been removed. I've posted a copy of this thread many times trying to help out people just learning.
Anyone know why the pictures were removed ?

A couple years ago (so long after this thread was started) BYC went through a giant upgrade.
A lot of pictures did not make the transition.
