I hate opening these posts but for some reason I always do....really sorry to hear, hopefully they really do bring you a bear trap, that would be great. When you rebuild, make sure and use lots of electric wire, that's my best suggestion so it doesnt happen to you again.

We use electric wire around the bee hives for bear, it might work for the coop too. Have to have a strong fence charger though. Never thought about a bear going after the coop..... so much to worry about.

Sorry to hear of your troubles it is sad , but dont let yourself be defeated by some pesky bears. Hubby will have to invent the first bear proof coop, cant hardly wait to see it. Maybe 2x10 siding covered with galvinized chain-link over it that would be something to see!

bummer. i am really hurting for you folks!

my cousin uses chain link for her chicken run, to keep out the bears. they have A LOT of bear where they live. they have seen a bear SITTING on top of the run.
she also shoots to kill, but to my knowledge, it's not be necessary after chain link.

i hope you keep going with chickens too, and wish you best of luck!

Oh Wow.So sorry about your bird's.I lost 5 of my millie Fleur's last night think maybe raccoon.I have heard of bear's in our area but have never seen one here or had damage from one.I had 3 surviving from the pen and have moved them and set trap.I wouldn't even know where to begin with a bear.Yea game Comm. not a lot of help most time's unless a human is attacked etc.We live pretty rural in cow country so livestock preservation pretty much rule's.Best bet get a big gun! I got mine ready and my trap set here. And I don't think Im huntin wabbit's either.Huggg''zzz and soooooooo sorry about your bird's and your coop's.We are seriously thinking about the elec. wire for the one coop since it's away from house with the run's.Probably cheaper than the quickcrete around it etc. Hope you can get rid of those bear and maybe get some new bird's and get your coop's fixed back up.I know nothing replace's the hard work and if you have them for pet's you never forget them and take's a while to get through it. Hope you can hatch some of the egg's too it was nice of her to get those to you.Good luck with thing's.

sorry about your loss. we had a similar problem one time and the game commission brought there trap caught the bear and released it about 20 miles away. Three weeks later it was back. This time there was a .270 rifle waiting and not a trap. we haven't had any more problems since we shot that one. you can also try mixing golden malrin with soda. It drops coons within 3 feet of where they ingested it. Im not sure but it should work for bears too maybe just a bigger dose. keep your pets locked up at night because it kills whatever comes in contact with it. you can buy the golden malrin at tractor supply.

Yeah. I'm afraid to go out by myself. The scope is off the 30.06 and I'm no good with open sights.

I have all the flood lights on and ventured out to the end of the porch with the spot light and couldn't see or hear anything, and the dogs have quieted down, so hopefully it isn't a return trip.

I hate bears.
