Our hen is filthy! Will it make her sick?

We did end up bathing her today. She looks (and feels) so much better! We spent about 45 minutes blow drying her on low, warm heat until she was totally dry before taking her back outside. We decided to nix the vaseline. We spoke to someone at our local chicken store and learned lots about chickens in the winter.

Donrae - We were told she was a Golden Laced Wyandotte when we bought her (although the chicks could have been improperly labeled when we bought them!). She's mostly white with gold highlights throughout (though hard to see in most pictures). She also has a single comb. If anyone knows what breed she is, we'd love to know! I've included a pic below and there are more on our profile.

We were told that leghorns lay white eggs and have white ear lobes. She lays dark brown eggs.

She's not a wyandotte of any type, probably some leghorn-based hybrid like a tetra tint or amberlink. What color egg does she lay?

Not many breeds lay dark brown eggs..Marans possibly. Does she have feathers on her legs? That might not be a clue since hatchery Marans sometimes don't have feathered legs. Might be a Buff Rock.

We call them dark brown, because in comparison to our other hens' eggs, it's the darkest. Here is a picture of their eggs. Dark = Blondie (unknown breed), Middle Brown = Ginger (New Hampshire Red), Lightest (Pinky Brown) = Layla (Silver Laced Wyandotte)

That is a nice dark brown. She's pretty meaty across the breast, too meaty for a leghorn come to think of it. Might be a white rock, who knows. She almost resembles a meat bird, looking at that breast.

We've googled LOTS of pictures this evening and it appears that she is a White Rock. Thanks for everyone's help!
