Our house burnt... But I'm back to BYC

I would have to agree with the others- your insurance company seems to have dropped the ball and perhaps you should lawyer up to get what's yours. If you were paying for the policy, then there should be coverage. Your bank will be able to pull posted checks and electronic transfers to prove you were paying for the coverage. I'd make some phone calls... that doesn't sound right at all.

How horrible!

I have lived through a fire as well and it is devastating.

If you are having problems getting your insurance to pay up, etc. I would contact the local news media with your story. Sometimes they'll have a reporter who will try to figure out the problem.

Absolutely. Don't let them steamroll you, because they will try to do just that. The squeaky wheel will get the grease! I wish you luck - and thank goodness all of you were ok, plus your poor kitty survived!

Glad you are all alright and the way the insurance is......something didn't smell right

If you were paying through an escrow account there is no way they can hide your policy. If you have a mortgage let them speak with the insurance adjustor. Banks and mortgage companies do not play.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. That must have been so emotionally devastating for you and your family! I'm glad no one was seriously injured or killed.

Thanks for all the kind words.

Our insurance co. never sent a copy of the policy to our lender. We didn't know that, we have proof of what we have been paying but they are saying our coverage was on our barn and not our house. Why would I put that on my barn?!

We have had lawyers and other insurance companys look at it no one can find a way to get them. They covered their trail really well.

The fire started from a light socket on my back porch. It wasn't even supposed to have power run to it and hadn't in the last 4 years. I don't think that was it but guess we'll never know....

I know others have already said it, but I have to say it as well: I am so, SO sorry for your loss and this chaotic time for you. I'm thankful that there was no loss of life, and very thankful you were able to save your kitty. I hope healing comes quickly. My prayers are with you and your family; I hope you can come to some kind of resolution with the insurance company and either rebuild, get a modular or manufactured home, or somehow be able to be back on your own place so your farm critters can be more easily tended and you can enjoy being back with them.

Take it up with your mortgage company. The issue rests with them as they were supposed to have the isurance secured when writing the mortgage. It was part of their job to get a copy of that policy and have everything in order. Do not let them out of this. Go to them and make someone contact the insurance company. Tell the person at the bank you will not pay the mortgage balance left after the insurance settlement is paid. That will make them move like a fire is under their butts. No pun intended.

The lender had our old insurance policy and that was all they were ever given.

I guess I should have checked to make sure my agent had sent them a copy but didn't. I thought my agent was a upstanding moral person who cared about his clients I was WRONG.

This is no piddly insurance company either. It's probably one of the largest in the nation.

My lender is an awesome person and has bent over backwards to help us, we as a family have used him for years. He has gone above and beyond do get us in the best situation to rebuild.

We are in the process of finalizing plans with a modular home company. The wweather has made it dreadful to get out and look but after this weekend is over I'll have some more free time to get out and explore. Our goal is to be in a house by late Spring.
