will do all of that. actually the chickens prefer the roosts in the run rather than the coop... i keep the coop open but they really only go in for egg laying. i used to force them in the coop, but now that its dark when i go to work and dark when i come home they are always settled in the roosts in the run so ive kind of let them do their thing... is that bad?? ill get some bag balm.. though that was a first ever snow on christmas day in Seattle.. we can get cold but rarely COLD COLD.. we normally get 1 snow a year of a couple inches... how cold is too cold??![]()
Glad you're here !
If you haven't yet, please make your poultry a FIRST AID KIT for any issues that would arise.
It's definitely better to have it and not need it rather than need it and not have it.
Also, make sure your coop(s) have a proper amount of VENTILATION. Your chickens will absolutely thank you for it!
One last thing, please get your chickens some Vaseline or bag balm to stave off frostbite before they get it! Baby, it's cold outside!![]()
as I have huskies and have yet to get them to coexist with the chickens, The chickens have a 30x30 fully fenced (top and sides) pen that is i feel preditor proof... in the pen they have another caged coop with run. The run has plexiglass around the roosts for wind break so any preditor would need to get through 2 sets of fencing at night... the only thing getting in and out are the rats that took over the mole tunnels.. im fighting them but not sure who is winning, me or the rats..Hello there and welcome to BYC!
I personally prefer if my birds are safely locked in the coop. Less wind, predators and exposure to the elements. Just keep an eye on them to see how they do and make sure your run is 100% varmint proof.
Welcome to our roost!![]()
