Our Marans and Ameraucana Baby Pics!

Thanks for asking, Krista. 14 out of what turned out to be 17 viable eggs. So it was an 80% hatch rate, if you take out the deformed egg and the one that drown.

When I candled the eggs on Day 23, I found out some interesting results.

The three remaining Marans were infertile, clear. So with the 10 that hatched, the one that drown and the deformed baby I had to cull, I had 100% go to full term and the drown chick was an error, on my part I think.

Of the seven remaining Ameraucanas the dropped egg did not make it, 3 were clear, one died it looks like day 10 or so, and 2 had gone what looked like to full term. I do not know why those 2 didn't make it (marked b splash too

).

So my hatch rate was actually better than I thought. I didn't trust my candling and forgot to account for the iffy eggs I saw at day 14. Next time I will definitely candle at day 7, toss those that are clear or blood rings and candle at day 18 and toss the rest.

The last BC out is a bit small, but he is thriving now and I hope he catches up.
