Our Mixed Flock Journey!

We have a new record...one of my girls laid an 80g/2.8oz egg

8 eggs today!

I got my leghorn girl and the 2 ISAs from TSC. I chose the ISAs but my leghorn was supposed to be a buff Orpington. The folks there can’t tell their chicks apart, ha!
I give them the best care I can, and feed them a healthy diet, and enjoy their presence in my world. That is the best anyone can do. At this point in my life I have outlived all my pets (except for the ones I presently have, of course).
And they are all lucky to have you. No chicken can do better.

That's a biggie! Congrats! That is also quite a haul.
It's fun to get those big ones once in awhile! 8 is a good number! We were gone and my son said he brought in 17 eggs...we only have 16 hens...I think he missed a few from the day before! The most I've brought in is 13...we are trending downward with the shorter days!

Good afternoon everyone! I finally got video of my flock flying and running to greet me when they are at the far end of the run!!!:love
I'm still going to try for a video that will catch more of them flying...they did that a few days ago, but I didn't have my camera ready!!!

Isn't that just the best feeling! They are so happy to see you. 🥰

That is an amazing run they have there!

Once again I have a girl that doesn't seem to be feeling well! This morning I noticed that Pearls egg was a bit messy, but that happens sometimes! When I went to make a last check for eggs I noticed her on the roost bars before everyone else, I decided to pick her up and look her over. She had a very dirty bottom and I decided that she needed to be washed up! I took her into my laundry room...that has turned into the best place for examining my chickens! So I gently washed, rinse & repeated that several times! I checked her crop, it felt like she had food in there, but it wasn't overly full! I looked back at the video I took earlier and she was in there with the best of them. My husband said that he might have given them to much fruit yesterday...so I'm hoping that's what the issue is, but I will still be keeping a close eye on her. While I was examining her I also noticed that the roosters have been a bit rough, I noticed some of my other hens backs looked very similar. I didn't catch them tonight, but I might try tomorrow and see if they also have wounds. Anyway, I sprayed some Vetricyn on the sore looking places...it's time to thin out the roosters...I can't stand seeing my girls being treated like this! I also got her to drink a little bit of electrolytes!

Rooster Damage! Poor Pearl...:(

They bring a smile to my face every day...sometimes sadness too! I'm still so amazed how much I enjoy them! 💞
