Our Mixed Flock Journey!

We finally picked up the pigs today! They are very skittish! Let me introduce Porkchop, Bacon, Hamhock & Pulled Pork (aka, Kalua)! That's how I will have to look at them...lol!

There is safety when you climb on top of your litter mates! 😂

I showed them the food, but I will have to go out tomorrow and make sure they are eating! They did manage to find the water!

Oh my goodness, how cute. Farm raised pigs are the best eating :p my boyfriend's family used to raise them and I always looked forward to getting a one (to eat) each year!

What does your "breakfast mash" consist of? So sweet!!:love
It's just chick starter with hot water poured into it! I make sure it's cool enough for them to eat, but try to get it to them while it's still warm! :)
Gorgeous lawn!! Make me antsy to get ours started!

Thank you! It has taken a lot of work and time to get it to this point...it was sand and sagebrush when we started! I will look forward to seeing yours! 💞

They definitely are tasty! I know I'm looking forward to it! :)

I came up with a temporary display of my quail eggs. It's a little bag that had Pistachio nuts in it, I'm going to try to come up with something better, but I think this is cute for now. I remembered that the nest where I found the eggs had feathers in it, so I went out and collected them. Some were just fluffy and I used those as fillers, others had colored tips, so I used them as accents! This was a fun little project that brightened my day! Hopefully it will brighten someone else's!

That is darling! :love

I think my baby Buff roo is sick! I posted this in the health thread, but I want to post it here too!
My 4 week old Buff Orpington Rooster, seems to be off of his feed this morning! Every day I feed my chicks a morning mash of chick starter soaked in warm water. This little guy is the one that is always there to greet me and hop in my hand! Today, he was totally disinterested. I left them for a bit and came back and he was still standing in the same place he was when I left. I also give them a clump of grass and dirt to scratch around in...just to let you know the routine! I brought him into the house with me and checked him over...his crop is soft and I'm really not sure about his tummy! I want to observe him to see if he is going to the bathroom. Is there anything else I should check. I have some homemade electrolytes for chicks, should I give him some of that or wait and just watch him for a bit. I will be so sad if anything happens to him, he's my favorite!

Sorry your little guy seems to be under the weather. The electrolytes won't hurt him, see if he'll drink. Eggcessive and EggSighted4Life are both really good at helping others with their flocks, I personally would go along with whatever they recommend.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Thank you Debby! The problem is that I've gotten different information from both of them! One said to use Corid as soon as possible and the other said not to as it can nullify the vaccine he was given! I have him in a tote right now with a light offset to add a little warmth, he has fresh water with some electrolytes in it, but he hadn't moved out from under his little blanket I put on him! I did however decide to remove the cover and see what he will do! He's standing up, but not showing interest in food or water. I also just read an article stating that the vaccine isn't always good for every strain of Cocci. So I just don't know what to do! He's actually making a lonely chick noise right now, so I hope that's a good sign! I'm going to try and give him some more of the electrolytes I made for him. My son won't be home with the other stuff for another hour! Hopefully he will improve! I just wish he would poop, so I can see what that looks like!

It can be very confusing to know what to do when they get sick. My advice is to go with your gut Rene and what makes the most sense to you, sometimes that's the best we can do. Please keep us posted, sending you and your little guy a hug :hugs

Thank you Debby! :hugs He finally went to the bathroom, I posted a picture in my other thread. I looked though it and didn't see any worms or blood, so hopefully that is a good sign! I wonder if he got another strain of Cocci that the vaccine didn't cover, from the grass clumps we've been giving them? :idunno😪
