Our Mixed Flock Journey!

Pics
Our first chicken coop was pretty small, it was on runners rather than wheels, so more of a sled than a tractor. Eventually we parked it in one place and built a chicken pen next to our pig pen. Later on we decided that we needed a larger coop and we wanted to have it near our garden, so we built the coop that we have now. In the picture below you can see our first little coop. Brings back so many memories of when our children were small and the fun they had with our backyard pets. The pig pen and coop have been unused for almost 11 years. It was last used when our youngest son was a Senior in high school and he participated in raising a 4H pig for the last time! I miss the days when our children were home, but I'm so proud of the adults that they've become! 💞 💞 💞

We've been working on the pig pen and finally have it ready. We should be getting the feed today or tomorrow and the pigs within the next couple of days! We combined the pig pen area with the old chicken pen so that they will have two shelter areas, I should have taken a picture of the other side! I will do that when we get the pigs in...it's raining & cold here today! :)

This post is not chicken related! My son lost one of his closest friends in the Washington State Patrol, they were roommates at the academy! He was hit by a fleeing criminal on the side of the road while laying out stop sticks to help end a high speed chase! Trooper Justin Schaffer, this post is in memory of you...your life mattered! My heart is breaking for his family & friends as I pray for God to bring them comfort! EOW 4.24.2020

So sorry for the loss to his family and friends :hugs

Another backyard project! We will be getting 3 rabbits in the next couple of days. 1 buck and 2 does. This is a picture of the rabbit hutch my husband built for our children's pet rabbits many years ago! We will need to add one more section, but for now the 2 does will share! We will be placing it in the expanded chicken pen area once that is completed! I will post a picture today of the new area!

Cold!? We will be 90 degrees today and 93% humidity :th .... I sure hope that isn’t a sign of what’s to come!

We had a hail storm come through, thankfully the hail we usually get is on the small side! My oldest son is still running frost protection for the orchards he works for!
