Campines are very beautiful but they do tend to be flighty & screamers. Not for everybody but they are my favourites. They are so beautiful! The color on the Campine is amazing!![]()
I don't think I've ever seen one, but I would love to have one too! The chicken pen is far enough away from the house that she could scream all she wants...lolCampines are very beautiful but they do tend to be flighty & screamers. Not for everybody but they are my favourites.![]()
Out here they are rare & endangered. I like having them for that reason alone.I don't think I've ever seen one, but I would love to have one too! The chicken pen is far enough away from the house that she could scream all she wants...lol
Are they native to your country?Out here they are rare & endangered. I like having them for that reason alone.Mine are now reasonably tame. I can handle them if necessary but catching them is never easy.

No. They originated in Northern Belgium & are one of the rarest of domestic breeds ~ probably because they don't like confinement & I expect don't do well in backyard spaces. They are wonderful foragers & really like to free range. Mine are escape artistes, but they are good layers of white eggs & unlike breeds like RIRs not @ all aggressive. I've had dominance problems in a mixed flock so tend to steer away from breeds with a reputation for assertiveness. Are they native to your country?

It's so cool that you have one, with them being so rare! I think she would like my free range pen, but would probably like the whole yard better. I've read that RIR's can be aggressive, but I haven't seen that with mine...so far anyway. It might be a different story if they were all cooped up in a smaller space! I almost got an Australorp, but went with the Marans instead! Thank you for sharing your knowledge of them, she's stunning! No. They originated in Northern Belgium & are one of the rarest of domestic breeds ~ probably because they don't like confinement & I expect don't do well in backyard spaces. The home grown Australian hen is the Australorp. I started with some of them & they are a lovely hen & good layers but Campines are something else.![]()
