Thank you for the suggestion! I actually did put a couple golf balls in the nests. Are fake eggs better? The local feed store just got more fake eggs in stock so I might have to get a pack.

I don't know. I've never used either.

I had a golf ball in each of my nesting boxes for awhile! The girls were checking them out after I put them in! I don't know if it made a difference of not, but imo, it doesn't hurt! I don't have them in there anymore as they are doing a great job of using the boxes now!

I went out at 3:30 to gather eggs & this is what I found...my broody girl & 4 others in the nesting boxes, with two waiting on the sidelines for their turn... @Riv-6 this is why you might need to add another box or two...lol!

I went out after 5 to collect all of the late eggs & found 2 under Spazzy...one of them was my largest egg so far...79g, sadly it was broken on one end, probably from her trying to pull it underneath her! Only 8 eggs today!
One of the eggs was a little bloody looking, anything I should worry about?

Probably not ~ though if you know who it is I'd keep an eye on her just to be sure but I'm not real good @ this stuff. @BY Bob or @Shadrach would be better.

New layers will often have a small blood smear on the egg & occasionally one of my older girls will but it's never become an issue.

It was just on this one side...I've seen smaller amounts...but this concerned me a bit more!
