Yup. I hate having to do that but I refuse to add extra lighting. They need a break.

No plans on getting new chicks for a while. I can only have 6 and have 5 now.



I agree, I like mine to have a winter break too. Store bought will do for us until they begin to lay again.

I was wondering if you would be limited in your new place!

Wer will buy cage free from local farm. They cost a dollar more but I know the conditions. It's not perfect but I can live with that.

I have some winter layers but everyone gets a break when they moult. I think they deserve one!

I agree! Their bodies were designed to self regulate how long they lay! So no extra light for my girls either...the will quit when their body says to and start up when it's ready to produce again. I am surprised that some of my girls are still laying, but not too concerned!

That is a nice egg holder! You'll have it full again come next year.

I haven't had a single egg in probably 3 weeks but my girls are getting up there (they turned 4 this year).

I got 7 today .... and it looks as though Claudine has started laying.... I have two that are identical.. smallish and blue! I know Clementine cannot lay two eggs in one day so it must me Claud! The two blue ones on the end are theirs❤...

I'm getting 1 egg every out of 5 days from Aurora. I warned Mrs BY Bob that we are going to have to purchase some soon.

All of my hens have layed continuously through their first winter...

Well my girls had another slacker day! We just got home from town, I brought 3 in before we left and there was only one this evening! But, I'm okay with that!
