Our Mixed Flock Journey!

Rene, so sorry to hear that. :hugs
Good morning & thank you Debby! :hugs It really made me sad and I think it was preventable. I've been thinking about the location of the wound & I'm pretty sure it was from the roosters fighting over her when trying to mate. I was watching this morning & it is very rough. We are removing the 2 Silkies today to see if it makes it better and I think it will, one of them is especially bad about it. Even with the huge run I have for them, it's too small for 6 roosters. 🙁 Hopefully my friend will take one of my Marans soon & then we will only have 3 roosters.

I lost my girl today! I missed a wound, I feel horrible about it! She was getting around a little and eating well, then she nosedived. The wound had abscessed really bad! 😢

I am sorry to hear this news. 😢
You know you did everything you could. She had great care. ❤️

All we will have to do is move the queen bed out of the spare room & replace it with one of the twins. The queen bed is to tall for her & takes up too much space. When we built our house we made all of the doors 36" wide to make it easier to move furniture in and out and accommodate a wheelchair if ever needed and I'm so glad we did. I took care of my dad until he died from cancer & he was in a wheelchair at the end. Our shower is a walk in, so no changes there, we will have to put in a handicap assist for the toilet & if she is in a wheelchair we will probably add a ramp to the garage entry. It really won't take much.
It sounds like you are well prepared. I am glad to hear it. I can be a lot if you haven't prepared beforehand. :hugs :hugs

I would think that they would have to do something to stabilize it until the muscles are strong enough to hold it in place. I'm now encouraged to think that if she gets to the point where she can get around with a walker, then we might not opt for her to have another surgery to put in a new implant. She's been through so much trauma in just the last year and a half! Thank you for the encouragement! 💞
According to Mrs BY Bob, they put a "spacer" in place of the hip. It keeps everything in the proper place.

Mom update! I just found out that they put some sort of spacer in her leg, it is infused with antibiotics! Sometimes I talk to her & she sounds good, other times she seems very confused. It's so hard not being able to be there. :(
I know it can be very hard to not be there and to have to rely on others. She will be with you soon enough. :hugs:hugs

I forgot to post this yesterday. Hubs cut up the large branch that broke off of our Deodar Cedar from the snow this winter and attached it to the old posts that we had for our blackberries and raspberries. It is in a safe place under the tree's so no hawks can swoop down and get them. I kept trying to get a picture with the whole flock in it and I had to keep backing up because the Marans kept following me and getting under my feet! :love

This is a wonderful idea for them. I'm sure they will love resting on it.
