I'm so glad you caught it and got it fixed for her. A rough day for her as well. Hugs to all.Good afternoon everyone! Well, I thought I would be back and checking in on everyones pages this morning. Instead, I was tending to one of my Welsummer girls. She has bumblefoot. I noticed the other day that it looked a bit swollen, but she is one of my more skittish girls and I couldn't get near her. Today, it was very swollen, so I realized that I needed to catch her whether she wanted me to or not! I can't believe how bad it was and I feel awful that I didn't catch her sooner! She certainly squawked when I caught her and the Roosters always get a little upset when they go off like that, thankfully they didn't come after me! I soaked her foot for about 20 minutes and then I wrapped her in a towel and went to work! I was able to get it cleaned out really well, it's definitely not a job for the squeamish! I sprayed some Vetricyn on it, covered it with a gauze pad & wrapped it with some 3M Coban self adherent tape. I did a quick look at everyone & noticed that another of my Welsummer girls has the same problem. I will be catching her tonight & dr her up. I've removed the high bar in the chicken pen...assuming that's what is causing the issue. These girls are probably the lightest hens I have, so I'm surprised they are the ones presenting with this problem.
She was walking around fine after I returned her to her pen...now she's having a well deserved rest!

That looks fantastic, Rene! So glad for you it's over!Happy 4th of July everyone!
I'm sharing the last pictures of our kitchen. Except for the doors that we are waiting for we are finished and it feels good. Thank you for putting up with this part of my journey and thank you for all of the encouragement you have all given to me along the way!
Starting on Monday...I'm hoping to at least be able to pop onto everyone's pages and say hello! Catching up will be a daunting task, but I'm looking forward to it!

Squeezing out the pus in her foot was pretty gross and I felt really bad for her. You need to soak the foot in warm water...they call for using Epsom salts, which I had on hand, but if I didn't I think the warm water would still do the trick. There is a black scab on the bottom of the foot, I started by peeling that off and as it came off there was a part that they call the kernal, it's hard and white, I continued to squeeze and manipulate her foot pad getting quite a bit more of hard & soft white matter out. I did this until the only thing coming out was blood. It really didn't bleed a lot, but I felt/hope I had gotten all of the infection out! I then sprayed the wound with Vetricyn and wrapped it up!Hi there! I’m glad you were able to help her... can you please tell me what you had to do? If you don’t mind... as far as the gross part![]()
