Our Mixed Flock Journey!

Happy 4th of July everyone!

I'm sharing the last pictures of our kitchen. Except for the doors that we are waiting for we are finished and it feels good. Thank you for putting up with this part of my journey and thank you for all of the encouragement you have all given to me along the way!

Starting on Monday...I'm hoping to at least be able to pop onto everyone's pages and say hello! Catching up will be a daunting task, but I'm looking forward to it! :love

Your kitchen is just beautiful! All of your hard work has paid off! I LOVE it!!! :celebrate:clap:thumbsup

Good afternoon everyone! Well, I thought I would be back and checking in on everyones pages this morning. Instead, I was tending to one of my Welsummer girls. She has bumblefoot. I noticed the other day that it looked a bit swollen, but she is one of my more skittish girls and I couldn't get near her. Today, it was very swollen, so I realized that I needed to catch her whether she wanted me to or not! I can't believe how bad it was and I feel awful that I didn't catch her sooner! She certainly squawked when I caught her and the Roosters always get a little upset when they go off like that, thankfully they didn't come after me! I soaked her foot for about 20 minutes and then I wrapped her in a towel and went to work! I was able to get it cleaned out really well, it's definitely not a job for the squeamish! I sprayed some Vetricyn on it, covered it with a gauze pad & wrapped it with some 3M Coban self adherent tape. I did a quick look at everyone & noticed that another of my Welsummer girls has the same problem. I will be catching her tonight & dr her up. I've removed the high bar in the chicken pen...assuming that's what is causing the issue. These girls are probably the lightest hens I have, so I'm surprised they are the ones presenting with this problem.

She was walking around fine after I returned her to her pen...now she's having a well deserved rest!

It’s good you noticed it right away. Did she carry on when you had to remove the pus? How often will you change the bandage? Just curious.

She actually handled it quite well, except for the fact that she doesn't like to be touched. I will change it today, but then we will be gone for a couple of days, so I'm hoping it will be okay, I think it will. As soon as I get a chance today, I'm going to read the article Debby shared & see exactly what it says!

Hi everyone! @BY Bob sorry I didn't get a picture of the wrap, I kind of ran out of time before we left for our trip!

We picked up the telescope and it's amazing! I have a lot to learn.

First a picture of my flock...I definitely haven't shared enough of them lately! Enjoying a cucumber snack!
