On Saturday my husband and myself, with the kids in tow started an adventure for us with our new foray into homesteading. We currently have a Belgian Mille Fleur d'uccle Rooster, that literally walked into our lives! Hes so sweet and docile. He seems to have taken a liking to me. He comes only when I call him and will only come out of his coop if hes around people. He has quite the personality on him.

Anyway, before I begin to ramble on and on. BABY CHICKS!! Since finding out the Ren our rooster is a rooster and not a hen we've been dying for some chicks!!We looked around our neighborhood, to no avail. The only chances we had locally was the Tractor Supply (which we love!), craigslist or order offline. Ordering online would have taken awhile do to the current hatching times of some hatcheries. Tractor Supply was no luck either, no chicks until Easter. I knew my boys (including my husband) didn't want to wait that long to start our little family farm. On happenstance I checked craigslist and BAM like a bolt of lighting the 1st ad! It was a miracle a local person who had a bunch of chicks to sell. After only wanting to get 3 we ended up getting 4 baby chicks. So here the little rascals are:

This one we are currently calling 'Precious'. She is a Australorp hen. The smallest of the four chicks that we got. My husband has claimed her as his and she has definitely taken a liking to her. Precious is about 2 weeks old Born on 11/1/17. Precious loves to cuddle with the other bigger hens and if you can't find her, just look under Lucy and Grace and that's where she'll be!

This little bugger is called Lucy. Lucy is a Ameraucana hen. She is the biggest of all the chicks we got. She's about three weeks old so far, born on 10/28/17 and extremely sweet. Lucy is our youngest sons baby chick. He named her after his Nana's dog.

Our next baby is Grace. She is a Buff Orpington chick. She is also about 3 weeks old. She is our oldest sons baby. We haven't quite figured her out yet. She is very flighty and fast as hell! She was also born on 10/28/17

And last but certainly not least is my baby chick Luna! Luna is a Barred Plymouth Rock hen. SHe was born on 11/1/17 as well. She certainly has very funny personality about her. She is always the first one to the food bowl and a protector of Precious.

Before we had their brooder set up we had them on the back porch for a few hours and my 'little' fat cat Nox was so intrigued he could't take his eyes off of them!

I hope you all enjoy the pictures!! Any and all suggestions about raising baby chicks would be helpful we're first timers of babies!!

Glad you decided to keep your rooster. He sounds like a sweetheart.

I'll also add that Lucy looks like an Easter Egger to me--her feathering is EE hen specific. On the plus side, you can be near one hundred percent absolutely positive that she's a hen.

I don't think I could ever part with Ren, he's so awesome! I do agree with you, I think Lucy is an EE too. How exactly would I know the difference between the two? I've read that EE aren't a specific breed of chicken. Like I said we're new to this but, super excited.

As you can see if you read the above, Ameraucaunas have muffs. Your Lucy does not. That's the most obvious trait. Also, it's virtually guaranteed that any hatchery selling Ameracaunas, Americaunas, or various other butcherings of the spelling is actually selling Easter Eggers. It's a lot easier to sell a bird that doesn't conform to any type than it is to sell a breed.

Congratulations on your new little ones! Chicks are so cute, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time watching them grow.

They're so adorable and fun to watch. I can sit there and watch them all day but, nothing would get done haha.
