I had, bred, and raised Silkies for several years. They are cute enough but excessively broody and not the brightest color in the Crayola box. The roosters are the biggest jerks with little man syndrome and the ONLY breed who constantly mounts each other. So glad they are gone! Many of my large fowl hens could brood circles around the Silkies. Mind you, I still have 6 roosters heading to freezer camp. They dress fine for the table!

I considered keeping Java.. but not enough eggs produced.

Had one Australorp. She was pretty. But it's extremely difficult to make an impression on me after keeping dozens of breeds and hundreds of birds.

My absolute favorites are Marans and Rocks. But the many different birds taught me that no two are the same and neither are any two people. It's OK for us to like different things, that's what keeps it interesting...
