You could always put a thermometer in there. I mounted one in my brooder as a reminder to myself to back down the heat as they get older. If you're worried about it getting too cold you could cover part of the brooder away from the light with a towel to retain some of the heat in there. Again, a thermometer will tell you exactly how warm/cold it is.
