Over 30 weeks and no eggs

I got my 5 new chicks the first week of last June. They did not lay all last year. However, starting in March of this year, they layed up a storm. I am totally sure because I have other hens, but I was getting 4 to 5 eggs from each of them by mid April. Relax and look forward to more eggs than you need next year.

Hope they come around soon. The light may help and if so, it will be apparent very soon. You might try giving them Calf Manna. It is a high protein feed for cattle and is reputed to help jump start after molting season. Sounds like you have taken care to see to it that they have adequate space and a quality environment. Mine have an 8x16 coop and close to a 2,000 sq ft run, so they have a lot of space to use. Yours are even better off being that they get to free-range. I may let mine do that of an evening, but not until all are laying and in the habit of using the nests in the coop. I do not need to be looking all around my place for eggs.

If you ever order chicks again, I will say that Buff Comets are good early layers. Mine started at 16 weeks and during that week I was getting 2 or 3 a day. Two weeks later it was 6 a day as a RIR got into the act. At 22 weeks, it is now 9 to 10 a day and that is usually well before noon. That means easily half of my flock of 24 is laying. Thing is, 6 of the 7 buffs were leading the pack . (One Buff comet is a runt and has not yet started.)
