This morning I bought 6 day olds chicks at my feed barn. Cool I thought. But I have 15 eggs in the incubator due to hatch next week. Most look good. What am I going do with all these? Where am I gonn house all of them? Oh crap. Husband doesn't know about the ones I bought this morning.

Do you at least have a brooder for temporary housing/warming? We just got our flock of 15, and I built a brooder, very cheaply, at 4x4' just to make sure we had enough room. Needless to say, I could safely put several more in there and they'd be comfortable even at 4 weeks of age.

I bought my materials from Lowe's for a grand total of $85 - that includes all the plywood, 1x1" corner support, the screws, dowels for roosts, the pine shaving bedding, and the lamp fixture. I had to spend an extra little bit at Southern States for the bulb (Lowe's was out) and the feeder and waterer, but all in all, it cost right around $110 in total - and we can easily reuse it for future hatches.

Will there be enough room for them when they're full grown? If not, I would start finding them new homes before things get too overwhelming. But if that's not the case than i'm sure you can find something to brood them in, cardboard box, rubbermaid bin, etc. I hope everything works out!

I would find out if you have any second hand stores, or reclaimed kitchen stores for cabinets, or play houses to house your birds. I have a burn pit in our development, and have gotten doghouses, dresser drawers- (great for lay pens), big wooden boxes there all for free.
