oyster shell ?????s

Man, I've been reading posts about people having to pay some cray-zee prices for oyster shell lately. What a bummer for all y'all. I pay 2 bucks for a 10-lb bag out here on the coast with the most.

50 lb bag here is alot cheaper than the smaller quantities. I pay 12-15 for 50 lb instead of the 5 to 8 for less than 10 lbs of shell.

I pay $7 for a 50 lb. bag. I have gone through pretty much this year for my bantams. Seems they eat quite a bit. Anyone else find bantams eat more calcium then big hens? Maybe because they lay relatively large eggs for their small bodies & have less reserves.

Unless you have a lot of birds and they are confined 24/7, a little bit goes a long way. I suspect 10 lbs. would last someone with 4 - 5 birds for the length of their laying lifetime, especially if they are allowed time to free range.

Not around here, we have A BIG-R farm & ranch supply they must not have a very good line on oyster shell though.
