I awoke this morning to a ruckus of shrilly chicks and the sounds of scattering in the plastic bins. My first thought was that my son or husband didn't secure the door and the cats got into them. So I ran into the dining room and that is when I saw Paper Towel Football! The black Ameraucana was the quarterback and ran confidently across the bin, criss crossing, a zig zagging and a-jumping to avoid giving up the paper towel! Oh no, he fumbled! The Lavender Orpington quickly snatched the paper towel and continued running toward the opposite side with ten chicks closely behind. I laughed myself silly.
The game continued for several minutes until they tuckered out and snuggled up against each other under the heat lamp. Whew, what an exciting way to begin the morning. Ya' just gotta love them chicks!

Hahaha! That is so cute! Mine did something like that once when I first got them. I put them in a cardboard box and was cleaning their brooder. I heard all these excited peeps and looked down and there was a gold star, like from tinsel or something, it had fallen into the box. One of my SLW chicks grabbed it and all of the others were chasing it trying to get it from him!

I just adore the chicks!

I noticed that you are a photographer, so you must have some very nice shots of all your babies. I've been trying to coax my ex-husband to take pictures of my favorite chickens, but haven't had luck.

Ha! Mine did exactly the same thing this week so I decided it was time to change them to pine shavings since they either destroyed all the paper towel or ate it. They are too funny. Now they play keep away football when they find the dark pieces of bark in the pine shavings. It's like they just found a worm and off they run chirping away....

My older chicks are able to get out of their brooder in the bathroom (I am an indulgent mom and just clean up after the evidence) and they found the whole paper towel roll. They knocked it down and have been playing with it on the floor. 3 chicks, standing on the roll like a short roost or picking up an edge to unroll a couple sheets. They scratch on the sheets, poke their heads into the end of the tube, stick their heads through rips in a sheet, have a whole lot of fun.

I think it's adorable. Easy to clean up, no harm.
