paper wasp nest in tree in chicken run

Quote:
I had a young rooster Zeus that swallowed a wasp once. He wasn't a happy camper for about ten minutes, but it didn't do him any permanent harm.
Yesterday one of my young salmon faverolles chased a wasp, despite me hollering to her that it wasn't a good idea. I think she got stung on the face. Again, no harm done but she learned her lesson.

love the blow torch idea, DH says he may go down to night cut the branch and through it over the fence.we do have hornet spray if the propane guy didn't use it all up. I do think the chickens or at least 1 is getting up there and grabbing some now and then cause there doesn't seem to be a lot of activity, but it makes me nervous having it there when I go change water ect. Thanks for all your help I was worried they could swarm the hens and do some harm. Then I would really feel neglectful. Any tips on these pesky fruit flies/

I had a huge one right on the side of the coop--they didn't bother me or the chickens--waited until winter and removed it. The only danger would be to you or, if you have kids(boys especially) that like to throw rocks.

If possible where it`s located slip a garbage bag over it at night when they are sleeping and tie it shut. Next clip the branch off ,open the bag slightly and spray wasp spray inside and tie it shut. I`ve done this once and it worked ,they never woke up.
