Born farm boy. Started driving as soon as my legs were long enough
to reach the pedals. In the fields, the backroads.

I turned dad's truck over in a hayfield when I was about 10. Yep, he was
mad.

You just gotta learn not to do some things.

I can understand the young man having a little concern about driving. Some
real nuts out there. Just gotta be careful, watch out.

He can do it. Believe in him.

Would I drive him to work and back? Not long. Pointless. Part of growing up.
And I would make him drive the biggest tank I could find.

Must be making some progress. He is willing to step up and drive the truck if 'chatty Cathy' doesnt go too. lol. If we just drive around the block, she is old enough to stay home for 10 minutes at a time. So, this weekend we will be starting with our driveway and down the road a little ways.

I didn't get my DL until I was 24-- was already married, out of college, and had a job. I put it off because I was terrified that I would kill someone. If he is scared I suggest small steps, and let him pick those small steps. Down the block and around the corner, at the speed he feels comfortable with, or better yet, start in an empty parking lot. Then when he feels comfortable with that let him drive a little further. Go on Sunday mornings or when the roads are absolutely dead. Have him start now before it snows, let him chose where and when, but insist he has to drive. Reassure him that if he wrecks the truck it will be OK. This is what helped me. Actually, I learned to drive on an Army Post where to speed limit was never over 35mph. Knowing I didn't have to go fast helped. But, don't let him wait until he is 24 to get his DL. It was stupid of me to wait that long.

Like its been said before, if he is not willing to drive to work, he shouldn't have a job. at 17 you shouldn't have to drive him around town. once he decided to drive, then you guys can talk about a job.

Never turned the truck over, i did get to close to the post on our narrower driveway and put a big scratch in the side of it, but thats nowhere near the worst piece of damage done to that truck over the years.
