Part timer...pet sitting and dog walking.

You have to price your services higher than $5. Our dog walking service charges $16/day to take both of our dogs out on a 20 minute walk. Here's their website for more ideas on prices.

I know prices for services can vary based on local markets, but I just can't image any place in North America where a dog walk costs only $5!

See around where I am folks do it for free, we kinda exchange services like that.

We're currently taking care of someone's Lab and barn cat - they're away this weekend... and for sure they'll be doing the same for us or someone else.... (they have offered to loan us their tractor or other stuff we might need to use)

Small town I guess......

Lets face it, being greeted by a Lab is not hard work...

I've never met the dog before today, but you'd SWEAR I was a long lost litter mate! So cute! (he doens't just wag his tail, he wags his WHOLE BODY)

A friend of mine had her dog in DAYCARE (California) the dog was destroying the house after her husband was deployed.
Anyhoo - it cost a FORTUNE for day-care, something around $150 a week, regular hours like 7:30am - 6pm monday - friday.

Yeah, charge more than 5 bucks per day. How long do you plan the walk to be? Drive round trip 15 miles and you already spent that 5 bucks on gas/car care. Going rate for mileage compensation for trips here is 42 cents per mile, so if you have to go far, might not be worth it.

I've never charged for pet sitting or dog walking...small town and all so I don't really know what I'm doing right now. I thought $5 a day was a lot.

I live 3 miles from the center of town and I'm only planning on doing this in and around my town. I would think a proper dog walking would be about 15-20 minutes. I reckon $10 a day is fair on both parties. I have to do some research on it. I looked up businesses in my area and found out there's a pet sitting/dog walking business 2 streets down from me. They have a really good reputation so I would have to offer a lower price than them in order to get some business.

I'm not trying to turn this into a full time business. I just need some steady cash coming in. The soap biz is very unpredictable. I was just sitting around thinking how lucky I am to be home with all my animals during the day when most people are at work not knowing what their pets are doing and worrying that they're not getting enough exercise then I thought hey, I love animals why not get my fuzzy animal fix and help other people out too...for a small fee. Works for everyone!

I thought about that but I seriously have this huge problem...I HATE working for other people. I just can't do it. Something about someone telling me what to do just drives me insane.

Besides I have to be able to make my own hours. I have my own business to run and shows every month. I have to be able to do this around MY schedule, not someone else's.

Well if your willing to have the dogs on your property then you would not need to concern yourself with their dog walking price, go for the doggy day care idea, or do the bath and walk at your place. Save the travel, have them drop off and pick up.

Sounds like the bath and walk might be better for you, day care the customers would want a more regular thing likely, and you want the freedom of when.

Southern, I just started petsitting and I just had my first customer. He wanted me rocome to his house (Hes my neighbor.) And go in his backyard everyday and feed his 3 rabbits for a week while they were on vacation. I was so surprised when they came back and pay me, they payed me 65$! just to go over there for 10 mins each day anf fid there rabbits!. I am going to start posting sighs all aroung are pet stores and try and get more bussiness. But if I were in your shoes I would charge like 7.00$ for every 10 mins they want you to walk there dog, it sounds reasonable to me and then if they want you to watch there dog overnite I would cahre 30-40$.

Me, myself am not very certain on my prices yet I need help also figure out my prices for figuring out how much I should charge for each hour I watch a pet

Sorry for sorta hijacking your thread southern
