Partridge cochin gender?

Before I had roosters I was against them also. I didn't want to hear the noise I was concerned about our close neighbors also that they would be aggressive. But at one point I ended up with straight run chicks and I got myself a few roosters out of the bunch. I decided to give it a whirl and come to find out I LOVE LOVE LOVE roosters. If roosters laid eggs I think I would own mostly roosters lol. They are BEAUTIFUL and I love the crowing, it doesn't bother me one bit and for the year I have owned the roosters my neighbors haven't complained(fingers crossed it stays that way). But I understand roosters aren't for everyone. I hope you get a quiet crower and maybe your mom will change her mind. If not He is very pretty Im sure someone will give him a wonderful lifelong home.
We got a letter stating poultry aren't allowed in our neighborhood.

There is an ordinance about nuisance animals, and poultry is included. Well, seeing how we worked so hard building our coop, our chickens(and chicks) aren't going anywhere. I'm ready to fight.

I hope it goes well for you. I've never really understood how poultry can be a "nuisance" animal, they don't bark 24/7, they don't rev engines at 11pm, they don't mow the lawn at 5am, they don't toilet on other peoples property, if cleaned daily they don't smell. I could understand a cockerel crowing through the night being a nuisance, but if you have a quite flock of hens that don't bother anyone then I do not see the problem!
People on the other hand, now they cause A LOT of nuisances

Oh Boy that is no good. Id be so upset to have that happen, sorry you have to go through that. And WOW no poultry at all allowed not even hens? That is so crazy. I would try to get a petition and have all your neighbors sign it if they don't mind at least the female chickens and go to the town hall. I would fight it too no doubt about it.

Really, you should bring these up. And show how they're pets, how the eggs are better then store bought, how quiet they are, etc. if you have a pretty sound proof coop, then a crowing rooster, even then a rooster box will prevent ridiculous crowing hours (a rooster can't crow every 5 seconds, and crowing a couple times at 5o'clock can NOT be a nuisance!!) I'd leave the right to have a rooster out, though. That'd be asking too much, then hide the rooster :p

I'll give out free eggs happily and give them a flippin' tour of the yard and coop. The only time they're loud is 8-9 am when they lay eggs, and that's it. Our coop floor is wire mesh so it's OK, but they don't cluck all day. I'm really thinking about a rooster box, maybe even using one of the nest boxes. As much as I want to hide Oliver, I want to ask the neighbors and council to give him a chance more.

Yup none at all! They didn't include no swine in the letter but it's on the site, a house near us brings their pig who's stomach touches the ground out on the front lawn. We won't rat on them, we'll ask them for help. I'm itchin' for petition.

Thanks, the loudest they are is around 8-9 am when they sing the egg song, and then they stop. I do gotta clean the coop, BUT YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE COOP OR RUN TO SMELL ANYTHING, so the smell argument can't be used against us. I'll try to show ya'll the letter.

I never got around to getting the letter typed but I wanted to update on how the little chicks have grown!

Oliver is looking quite dapper! He's really starting to shine!

You may want to look into getting them certified as therapy animals. Do you have children? You generally need a dr. to write a letter stating they are a benefit to someones mental health as therapy animals. I think, maybe someone here has more info? I know there is a website and you can call their helpline and do an interview to see if you can apply through their specialists.

It's a thought anyway.

Win win situation, if a neighbor wont sign it then you know which neighbor called and told the athorities you had chickens in the first place
