Thanks Ron! I really appreciate all the tips when we were waiting for them to lay. Turns out all we needed was patience! (Sometimes, that is hard to come by!)![]()

Has anyone very hatched out a white chick from their patridge rock pen? I know it sounds crazy! My pen of partridges is covered, so I know we didn't have a naughty roo of another breed sneak in. The chick is solid white with dark eyes. I am so confused as to how this happened!
Mine started at about 22 weeks. Yours are not ready yet. The one laying down is closest but she looks like she is a couple of weeks away.Hello all. My hens are 22 weeks old this week. What is the average age that they start laying? One hen slept in the nesting box last night but no eggs when I left for work this morning. I think it was more because i did some work on the coop opening it up & adding roosts & she was a little lost lol
Here is a pic of my girls enjoying a dirt bath yesterday.
Also do they have to molt before they start laying eggs? They have lost some feathers here and there but not to the extent of other chickens I have seen pics of. Just some grayish colored feathers and a few regular feathers.
The one lying down is the smallest of the 4. The other 3 are bigger than her. I couldnt tell in the dark who was in the nest box. There is an indentation in both next boxes where they are laying down at least but I have never seen anyone in there except at night once in awhile. Will they molt before they lay? And when they molt will they lose all the gray down feathers they still have? I assumed since their comb & wattles are barely there that they still had a few weeks to go? I am not in a hurry for eggs but I am looking forward to themMine started at about 22 weeks. Yours are not ready yet. The one laying down is closest but she looks like she is a couple of weeks away.
Point of Lay is longer in the late summer to fall because of less light. They will still lay but it will take a bit longer.
It is had to be patient fut those will be very special eggs!
