Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

So I found my little girl in the run this morning laying down unable to get up, she wouldn't move her legs but only flap her wings. We immediately moved her into quarantine, the rest of the flock is fine no symptoms. So I got her vitamins and without saying ACV water and food. I put down a puppy pad in the crate and took her inside. She looked pretty bad for a while there laying on her side labored breathing. But then she perked up and is walking eating and drinking. She doesn't have any visible wounds or discharge, and normal poops. I wonder if she is egg bound I'm going to check that too but I'm unsure how. She's 8 months old and her name is Apri, she's been laying eggs for 2months now.

So if everything turns out find then we know that she was being picked on and I will move her and the other silkie into a different coop. The strange thing is I catch her eating and then she backs away lays back down.

I am glad you caught it before it was more serious. I wonder if she got pecked in the head. Does she have a valuted skull? That sort of sounds like some kind of trauma.

Hope she gets better

I can't remember all the information about vaulted skills I'm still learning but regardless I found another coop and run so I will put those together and move both silkies to that coop! She's made leaps and bounds today from this morning she ate regular feed and a boiled egg and yogurt laid an egg and drank water. I can't believe it she went from unable to move and twitching to eating like a pig and laying an egg, and made good poops a big mess that I'm very happy to clean. :-D

Hooray for getting better. She sounds lots better. Sometimes its nice to have messes to clean up, then you know they are feeling better!

It does sound like she may have had a head trauma. When the Silkies have vaulted skulls their skull bulges up at the top - its thinner there and any jarring, pecking, bumping, etc can hurt the brain. As they get older it grows over, but when they are young they are very vulnerable. Even the older birds can be hurt because of those thin areas in their skulls. Its why a lot of people keep their Silkies apart from their other birds. If the birds do not have vaulted skulls they do fine. I have mixed Silkies in with my other bantams and have had no problems, so long as they don't have vaulted skulls.

Today was my work outside day - nice day for it. I got a few shots of my Partridge Silky pair - not the greatest but they were enjoying walking in the muddy water when I was watering the trees and standing mostly in the shade.

Jasper "Jazz" The Man.

Minky finally growing back her crest. She still has a few curlers on. Jazz in the background.

Well I have some great, if slightly premature, news for Partridge Silkie Lovers out there.. Minky's eggs are developing this time!

Minky is my Hattrick BQ Partridge Silkie Hen, covered by Jazz, the other half of the Hattrick BQ breeding pair. I went to Lowes today and happened to see a 200 Lumen LED flashlight for not too much money - so I bought it and tried it, just for fun (and very quickly) on three of the front eggs in the incubator. I can see development in ALL THREE! Veins and even a black moving blob!

This is day 6 or something - so not the official check - but after last times try with 10 completely clear out of 10 at day 18 .. I just wanted some hope. I sure got it!
