Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

More new partridge babies. I don't know how many yet. This is another "shared" nest and just discovered the peeping this morning when I let everyone out of the barn.

Very cute - I love little chipmunk babies! Momma doesn't look happy though....

No, I think it is one of those little dark partridges that Dian wants to see all grown up. I usually have one per hatch. That is four different colors of partridge chicks.

Yeah, it is - except its a bit blacker than I would like to see. Brown is preferred... However, I do want to see what it comes out like - and if that is e^b based or a pattern gene over E^R... Oops, sorry - genetics.. forgive me?

Smarty pants! I posted in the silkie thread that I can give you all the baby pictures you could want in different colors of partridge and how they grow up, but you and Sonoran would have to put the equations with them.

You only did two - and neither one of those looks genetically Partridge as babies or adults. The top one almost did - except its head was too light. It sure turned out dark. I wonder if there are genes in there that make it turn black.. and over-ride the brown from the Partridge Base. Or.. maybe its based on something else - still haven't ruled that out. The bottom one looks like a wild-type based Partridge that turned Black - but I was looking at that thread again and apparently Wheaten can look like a partridge chick too - with the right melanizers. Yes, I did say as examples! I have all sorts of colors that start out with at least some partridge markings. Hey that's what you are here for - to figure it all out for the laymen silkie owner!!!

This little baby in the foreground is the new Momma with her neck feathers ruffled out at me for taking babies pictures!

THANK YOU - I was going to ask about the Momma in the chick pictures. She looked very close to the correct dark red/brown Partridge in that picture - but she looks very light in the bottom picture. However Partridge can be lighter.. I think you may actually have the correct genetics somewhere in there - plus that dark helmet... take that away and you have Partridge! She even has the dark collar I see on my PWB! If you can add Mahogany like Sonoran did.. well...

Blue Bucket Girl still is light front/dark back - so not quite right there... I think the dark chicks are closer.

Is the broody the mother of the new dark chick, do you know? Who is the father... Inquiring minds want to know! What does he look like? Does he have a dark chest? Hmmm????
