Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Well I am relieved then, I can see a LOT more brown in my "girl"

I would be very surprised if I got any Silver from two Gold based birds.. and very suspicious.

Only way to get a Silver girl is if Jaz is Golden (carries one gold and one silver gene
hide.gif
genetics..) - and he looks too dark for that. Momma is Gold. "She" is Gold/Brown (Partridge) based and was yellow/brown as a chipmunk chick. I can already see some gold around "her" neck - but I hope that means girl. The gray underfluff is from the base - all Partridges are "suppoda" have that.

The ones that are Silver - are they more gray and white instead of brown and gold when first
hatched? Your girl looks like she may have had some brown early on. I am SURE you have a picture of her as a very young chick, right?

I am sure glad that wide comb on her head doesn't denote boy - I have a Parti cross that has a really wide comb. I was wondering if I should sell it as a chick just in case it is a boy - but if that is a girl comb for a chick I guess I will take a chance and keep it. The black and two blues have narrow combs - but that Parti cross - wide band! I don't know what Jaz baby's comb looks like - it runs around too fast for me to study it very long. The other juvies in the pen like to chase it, those will be moved out just as soon as they get big enough to go with the "big boys" which is going to be soon if they don't leave fluffy alone!
Yes, here is a baby picture of her. I actually thought she had two much brown on her to be silver but I was hoping for silver! I have several that have the rather wide comb, but it seems to be the shape of it. If it is caved in or concave in the middle mine have been girls. Looking straight on It will look like and upside down "V" that has a waistline or maybe a diamond would be a better shape description. The boy combs are shaped like an upside down "U" and the boys will rounded out word - convex.

The baby at the top here is a girl - the other to the right is a boy. That is comb shape at 3 days old.

Another example of the comb shape on a 3 day old girl.

And here is the silver girl as a baby - three days old. I have pictures or her at all ages. I was very excited when I thought she might be silver.

Quote: Thanks for the pictures. I KNEW you would have some for me

I think my Parti cross is a boy, the U shape is there

I am also seeing red feathers on it, and its only about 5 weeks old.

Your silver girl was a really cute chick (heck, all of them are
love.gif
) but I see she is almost all gray/white with just a patches of brown. I don't see the gold/yellow I am seeing on my bunch. I am glad you got the color you wanted. I think the brown comes from the base (e^b is also called Brown), its the other colors in the down that says if its Silver or Gold based.

See, I can supply the pictures but you have to break it down for me and everyone else!!! This comb sexing only works for me when they are very young. It seems they go through an androgynous stage for a while then it starts in again when you can tell somewhat. A large comb girl can fool you in the teenage stage, but not usually as a hatchling. This isn't infallible of course, but I have about a 97% correct sexing rate, a lot better than the 50/50.

She totally lost the brown on her head, now her head is charcoal with frosted tips. I didn't have any silvers or grays so I wanted some badly!

I have a partridge Silkie hen, but at the moment I'm on the iPad so I cant post the pic here, but take a look at the album on my profile or the gallery! It's titled "My Silkie Flock" and has some pics of her (Selena) in it! :)

Found a pic of my silver.
Thanks for the pictures, I am really trying to figure out what chick down on the Partridges indicates for colors when they grow up..

Super cute chick! Bottom brown one looks like "girl comb".. is this the silver boy one? Or is the silver one the one in the top picture in the scale? Or.. are they both the same chick with different lighting?

Selena is very pretty, Simba's mane is beautiful. My favorite of your pictures....the egg in the hay trough while the girls are eating the hay. There is a thread I follow called "Farm Related Photography. Pictures are the best Advertisement!" you should post it over there. They will get a big kick out of that. It made me laugh!

Silver boy is the one on the scales.

Ok, here are the pictures of my Smutty Buff cross. The mother is a light Buff, the father is a dark "Partridge" from mixed background.

Ricki - blue feathers in tail so he carries Blue

Donna-Don - was so hoping this one was a girl.. ah well. Closer to Blue Partridge with a Black head.

Mother and Father of the Crosses - she is very light Buff.

This is Peggy, my keeper Smutty Buff girl. She didn't get the blue (drat) but she did get the pattern gene. I will be crossing her back to her Partridge father.

This is the three kids - Donna-don, Peggy and Ricki.
I think you should breed Ricki and Peggy for more buffs. She has the pattern gene, but is really too light for partridge--too much dilution going on in her. You can also breed Ricki to the lighter mama.

Partridge are really supposed to have a red head, not a black one, but many do have the moor cap.
