Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Silver Quail - Thanks! She looks to have a bit of the Colombian around her neck too.. I wonder if those genes are linked... I am going to have to look that one up on the color calculator and see what does that white chest. Oops, genetics... sorry

She is lovely - what color did you show her under?
Silver quail is silver, columbian and melanotic genes; the neck paterning is part of the variety. From feathersite:

Here are three I just did of my birds.. its pretty straightforward and the program does all the work!

This one I just told it to make the whole thing an oil painting - no outlining or anything - its Goggles.

This is Jaz and baby - I outlined the two of them, reversed the selection and made the background darker to get rid of the other birds, then oil painted the background - and reversed it again and oil painted the two of them (with a smaller paintbrush)

This is Jaz by himself - outlined and darkened background and lightened contrast, then oil painting and reverse and oil paint him..

Probably took 10 minutes..

It is an amazing program!

It's the outlining part that gets me. I'm no good at it- lol These are great!!

I think this bird would be undesirable for breeding partridge. The variety appears to be quail. It does not appear to have pattern gene, and it does have the columbian gene. It might also have melanotic, which turns penciling into lacing. I cant see its back well enough to tell.
What other Silkie would you suggest for breeding it to? Columbian?

I am going to have to remember this color, its very striking. Is this color close to what makes the Light Brahma pattern? I wonder if the Silkies they are calling "Columbian" are actually based on this combination - because I see the boys have the pattern, but I haven' seen any girls with the same clean collar/tail/wing markings. If I change the feathers on the girl to silkied I see that they match Fur N Feather's girl very closely.

Ok, here's my playing with your posted pictures:

That program is really fun to play with!
These are really nice looking! You can use your own chickens as artwork.
Very nice posture - are they both girls? Cute puffin tails too.

Sorry.... I have one that is 9 weeks and I am still guessing on the sex- I Hope mine is a girl.. but I don't know yet.

Give it another 6 weeks then you can hope too... If it stays the all over even color then I would guess girl. If it gets darker/lighter areas (except for the head - that's a moorcap and not a sex determiner) or gets ANY red on the wings or back - then I would guess boy. Right now.. too young to guess.

Cute as a button though... LOVE Partridges!

No, I believe I have a boy and a girl.

Well, you guys all know I love the unique coloring.

I wonder that also Dian. Someone quite a while ago on the Different Colors thread asked if maybe a couple of my girls were Coronation rather than Coloumbian, but I am thinking this Silver Quail seems to fit.
