Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

You have so many partridge, do you think she is a girl?

At 8 weeks I wouldn't like to hazard a guess on someone else's birds. In saying that of these 3 I can definately spot the pullet. They are 9-10 weeks.

The 2 cockerels already have the beginnings of a walnut comb. The lighter one is a pullet.

I saw a pretty blue partridge for sale at a show in Dalton. I put a deposit on him the other day, and will be getting him in February. I've got my boy that I hatched here, he's 6 months old. He was picking on the girls a lot, keeping them cowered in the corner. Anyway- so now I'm going to have 2 boys :) Both are about the same age, growing out their wing feathers. Rocky is 6 months old.
Mine (Rocky) has too red of a comb- but it might be dark enough. He has a nice butt :) New boy looks better in real life than the pic. I don't have him, yet- so this is the only pic that I have.
Anyway, rambling on. We'll see how both turn out when they are grown. Maybe my boy will learn some manners as well. New guy is sweet to the ladies. . The first pic is the new guy, the other pics are of mine that I have already (Rocky). Any opinions, free to give. I'm getting the new guy either way, but will choose between them in the future. It might come down to space. I have to keep Rocky in his own cage, away from the girls, at night (when they are in their smaller areas). During the day- he runs with a lot of them. Older girls are working on teaching him some manners.

I would say let Rocky grow up a bit, he may surprise you. Hopefully the new guy has a lower stance, because in that picture he stands too tall. Your second picture of Rocky is what you want them to stand like - and if he can do it once he can do it more... Also hormones can cause a boy to push the ladies around too much - let the older girls teach him manners. I am unsure why you are separating him at night - usually that is when they do their talking to each other and bond better, taking him out may keep him from harassing the girls but it also keeps him from bonding to them as well. I like Rocky's coloring.

Yeah, I think so, too. Also, when I said that I was getting the other either way, I think I sounded rude! I didn't mean that I was getting him no matter what anyone said- lol. I meant, I'm still getting him because I've already committed to getting him. I'm going to get another pic of Rocky's comb today. His half brother, and half sister are whites with too red of a comb. I don't know if the moms or dad were passing that along. The father has since passed away. Anyway, I'll be breeding partridge to partridge (and one black pullet that also had the same dad, so she hopefully has a partridge gene, if the roo passed it on). Both of the parents that I got the red combs from had very dark combs. Ah, genetics :) I will try to put him back in with the pullets at night. On rainy or icey days, I keep them in their "apartments" during the day. He keeps her hiding in the corner all day :( Thanks!
