Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Sounds like they are from mixed background. Can't guess what they would produce chick-wise.

The cockerel looks partridge. It's kind of the default silkie color under many of the others.

Moorhead is the black head. I've tried to eliminate it in my flock because partridge does not have it in the Standard of Perfection. It's obviously recessive as I have it pop up occasionally still. It does make for striking looks.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS FROM OUR FLOCK TO YOURS -- ❤🐣🐣

We lost our little Amber (Dark Partridge) due to her being handicapped -- missing a toe on each foot plus a very deformed bent toe on one foot with a rear deformed toe on the other foot growing forwards beneath a short toe. Walking became a struggle for her as she grew bigger and heavier. Her other handicap was a deformed digestive system which ultimately led to her demise. The breeder replaced her with a new chick when Amber passed but we gave the sweet handicapped girl as comfortable and loving a home as we could during her short 2-month life with us. This little sweetie loved to slip under my hand when resting. She had such a spunky spirit but her body couldn't match her will.

Amber wasn't quite 3 weeks old when we brought her home -- she loved standing and resting on top of the warm laptop keyboard.

This is Amber the day before she passed -- still wanting to be under my hand. RIP sweet baby!

When the breeder replaced our handicapped Amber with a Blue Partridge chick we chose to also acquire a regular Partridge chick (Gold Partridge?) since both chicks are DNA sexed female chicks: There's at least a week difference in age but when these chicks are full grown the difference won't matter. Getting guaranteed DNA sexed female chicks means we could bring them home and tame them sooner. These little chcklets have the free run of our kitchen and getting tame very fast -- amazing how hand-held treats tame chicks!

New photo of Kana, my blue partridge pullet.
She is 8 months old and has been laying for about a month. What colors would be a good cross for her? 😊

@LadiesAndJane

When I bought my two DNA-sexed female chicks from Amber Waves Silkies (show silkies) they were described as a Partridge female and a Blue Partridge female. But I believe many breeders/owners refer to the Blue Partridge also as Silver Partridge. The color variety tags are probably important to show breeders but doesn't matter to me -- I just think my babies are sweet and gorgeous LOL!

My blue partridge are light looking partridge. I bred them myself my crossing a splash rooster to a hen, then only keeping the grandchildren that were partridge. The grey on the feathers is obvious if you look for it.

When we got our original Partridge Silkies I only knew of one color combo for Partridge (gold w/ light gray feathers with roos accented with some black in their crest/tail featners). Solid Silkie approved colors then were identified as White, Black, Buff, Gray (sometimes ID'd as Blue) and the Partridge was only gold/light gray. Paint and Splash at the time were still not formal colors.

Nowadays there are so many new color varieties like Moorheads, Dark Partridge, Tortoiseshell, Cuckoo, etc etc I can't keep up with them all. I just accepted what the showsilkies breeder told us when we purchased our DNA sexed females. I didn't want to go through getting unsexed chicks with the sorrow of having to rehome unwanted cockerels so we went through an experienced long-time Silkie breeder.

Silkies have such adorable temperaments that they can be purple or polka-dotted and I wouldn't care! They are adorable no matter what color they are LOL!

Blue partridge, partridge, moorhead partridge. I've tried to get rid of the moorhead but it pops up every now and then. It is not in the partridge standard.
