We live in a pretty "country " setting here in FL. I've never used a vet for my chickens ( mostly because my husband would have a fit) what does it cost? I'm betting we have a few around who see chickens because it's pretty common out where we are to have them, several of my neighbors do. Though I am betting they may not use a vet because many people consider them a low investment livestock kind of animal, but I don't see mine that way. This little hen came from a breeder who shows at the Ohio nationals and my son shows her for 4H - she is not an egg layer but I love my big fluffy egg girls too! I have had good luck treating them and saved quite a few from respiratory issues feom doing a lot of reading from different articl s and asking chicken people who have had had them longer than myself what they do. Our weather has actually been dry and mild for Florida. Seems we had one cold night ( down in upper 30s) and I noticed the little sneezes. She is doing much better now and has had a great appetite the whole whilebut she is so mild mannered I'm tempted to just keep her inside and spoil her! I've been feeding her boiled eggs- I cooked for my chicken - I am officially a crazy chicken lady![]()
So since the partridge/blue cross hen was taking care of chicks when I was collecting eggs from that pen I didn't think anything off it. I haven't planned on breeding her. She's a very good mother and pays her keep that way.
Apparently she was laying. I've been confused about one of the chick's color for the past week. It has light defined chipmunk pattern. It has enough wing feathers to see the blue now. So I'm curious how it will turn out. It's not far enough removed from the cross color to be a true blue partridge.

Oh she's looking fluffy! I need to bathe a few birds but it's too cold out. I can't wait for it to warm up some.My 6-yr-old Partridge has been growing in new feathers and was reclusive during feather regrowth. We gave a shampoo and blow-dry last night and now she's shiny and clean again. Poor thing needed it and today she is happily strutting around the yard like she knows she's the best looking bird today! All her crest feather shafts aren't completely grown out yet but we removed all the loose ones we could. I love Partridge Silkies. I just wish my new camera would hurry up and arrive - I'm so tired of this old Nikon!![]()
