Ya just gotta love the little fuzzy butts

Well..... I need silkie ideas!

First, my roo.... we have to run his butt down to catch him everyday to put him back up in his elevated coop. He runs us ragged. I have tried bribery with treats... i have tried oats, yogurt, strawberries, apples. My 3 silkies always refuse treats. The only treat they ever want is scrambled eggs!!! Well thats not happening everyday. So other snack ideas to help catch his butt?

Also.... my hens only lay when the food bowl is empty. They eat it all and get in and lay in the food bowl. I have a plastic crate with hay. I tried pine chips. But no.... only in the food bowl??? Any ideas???

I was just told to do it by George Mihalik. I was just starting out and he gave me that advice and now I have all of these beautiful birds. I want to replace the 2 roos that I have. I hate the red guy (he's partridge) because he is as mean as a rattle snake, but typy as h#^%. He throws very nice babies. The black with leakage just isn't typy enough - henceforth the gorgeous boy from Connie. Bloodlines won't really change so I hopefully won't mess anything up. Penciling is absolutely no problem at all.

I use a big fishing net on the hard to handle birds. It's got a nice long handle.

Have you tried canteloupe and watermelon?

I send my son to chase him. Tonight I put them up on the roost. He was a nutcase and refused. Oh well. Once we catch him he is fine.... He will sit in our lap. But catching him is another story.... Fishing net. Good idea! Poor chickadee...

I have been useing a fishing net for years (when I had my Production Reds). It eliminates a lot of running on everyone's part. It's over with a lot less stress. I can't chase anyone becsause of several back surgeries. I use a smaller bait fish net for chicks. The mess is soft and the holes are small. That one works good for Silkies too. When I use it on my 1 nasty Silkie rooster, when I take it off he's still biting down on it like a pitbull.
