Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

So Pennie, guess what? I got some new partridge silkies on Monday and one is a Redneck Silkie!! Yay! Oh... and he's about 4 weeks old, and CROWING! (if you could call it that) Do silkies crow extremely early? This is the second one that has started crowing at about a month old! Cracks me up! But anyway, I was excited to see all those red feathers coming in on his neck! I remember reading that it's a good thing, but I can't remember why right now.... lol... I have CRS!

Yep, rednecks are GREAT!!! Of course some may not agree (especially that I call them rednecks. LOL). If they are not brother and sister, you breed the redneck to the partridge to improve the black in the under fluff, chest, feet, etc. Where did they come from and why don't we have pictures? That is a must on here!!! Ya have to show pictures!!!

I have had a few that have attempted to crow that early... And as you know "attempted" is the operative word. I just laugh all the time when the babies do that. They try so hard and almost fall over. Their little necks stretch way out and they almost sit completely on their butts to give themselves leverage for the big PUSH. God love these little creatures, they make my life worth living.

CRS - can't remember sh^$

I will try to get some pics. The red isn't real noticeable yet, but it is coming in under all his baby fluff. I got him from a fellow BYC member who is practically right in my back yard! I think she still has 8 partridges available. Look for an ad Silkie Horsechick. I knew you said that it really helps the partridge color to breed a redneck, I just couldn't remember what the benefit was. Thanks for reminding me!

I love your description of them trying to crow at such an early age... it is spot on!

Hmm, seems to me I may have that syndrome as well!

I love the red necks too. I have three here, Frankie's pic was posted a few pages back. I am so used to describing the hackle coloring as "Copper" in my Marans, but Frankie looks like a carrot! He was named after my first childhood crush, Frankie, a little red headed boy in the 5th grade! I'm sure he's be impressed to know he is being remembered through a chicken!!

I have no idea, but I can tell you that my little 4 week old redneck partridge that crows has beautiful penciling on his wings. Hence I thought he might be a pullet when I bought him... but no such luck! Oh well... if he's the only roo then it's all good! LOL

It seems like I have been gone forever!

I haven't been feeling so well lately but was able to snap a few pics of 2 new girls I have growing out.

This little girl is about 2 1/2 months. She always hides on me but I got the best pics I could of her. I hope you guys can see her OK.
