Parvo!!!!!!! how to sanitize without bleach UPDATE.....

The vet called be a few hrs ago and she was dueing fine then. her white cell was a little high 1900 and her red cell down only a little. He was going to her an her some more meds aloong with the I-v and call me in the morning.

only 1 thing kills parvo and that is bleach. if the dog never pooped on the rug it should be fine. we just went through this with a pup we got off craigslist. we bought the meds, needles, iv bag from the vet with instructions and saved him. it was a minimum of 600 bucks for 1 day at the vets thats why we treated at home I think we payed like 180 maybe a little more I cant remember. good luck

Hope your puppy pulls thru!

Many years ago, we had a surviving Parvo Collie male puppy that lived a long time and was a great dog for my father. The rest of his siblings died not even a month after they were born. The breeder was blaming herself how her grump got the parvo and passed it down to her unborn puppies and had invested alot of money for the best dog in US to have her bred.

Parvo is bad and still is to this day!

Are your other dogs older? We went through the Parvo thing last summer. Our puppy got bitten by a rattlesnake, we took her to the vet and they kennelled her between two puppies with Parvo. A week later she came down with it.

We have 4 other dogs, ranging from 1 - 3 yrs old at the time. We physically could not bleach everything inside that may have had the virus on it, as that could be anything we had touched in the entire house. We throughly bleached their toilet area of the yard, with straight bleach, and threw their toys and beds out. I used a bleach solution on the areas of the carpet where she had vomited. We threw out her food bowl, and any other plastic bowls, and bleached the stainless steel ones (then rinsed very well).

Other than that, since the other dogs had been around her for a week, we figured if they were going to come down with it they would no matter what we bleached. Luckily nobody did, they all were up to date on their shots. The puppy made a full recovery. We don't allow anybody else's dogs in our house or yard, and will not for a year.

It really is important to note that vaccines bought from feed stores etc truly are not as effective as those administered by a vet. They do not usually have protection against the most recent strains of the virus, and (unless you go to our incompetent previous vet!) you can be fairly certain that the vaccine has been handled and stored appropriately if sent to a vet's office rather than a store. Our new vet, who is very old school and quite willing to advise us on how to treat conditions at home, will sell us vaccine to administer ourselves rather than us use the feedstore brands.

Yes our other dogs are older. They are all adults but one and he has had all his shots. We cleaned everthing we could with bleach and sanitized all we could. Our other young one is 4 months and has had no signs so far.

I didnt even think or know at the time you could bring from place to another on your shoes... but at least we caught it fast.

We have a friend whos puppy was not feeling good we all thought it was a flu until they woke up Thursday. She was not breathing well.
I was there that Tuesday before. She called me as soon as they found out Thursday because we were all in shock. So when mine stated acting odd I knew it and we left for the vet fast.

Many years ago I had a dog get sick with parvo. We rented the house we were in and could not use bleach for the carpets. So what I did was get my steam cleaner out and used color safe bleach instead of soap. It didn't smell up the house like regular bleach and our other puppy didn't get parvo. HTH.
