Parvo!!!!!!! how to sanitize without bleach UPDATE.....

Quote:
That sounds like when Maggie had it. She wouldn't eat when we came home on the Saturday night, and by Sunday she did not want to do anything. She just layed around all day and wouldn't eat or drink. She was throwing up and had diarrhea by Monday so I rushed her to the vet. Luckily she hadn't got to the dehydration and bloody diarrhea stage. We rarely have house guests because we live in the middle of nowhere, but my parents, my mother in law and my husband's aunt were all here that weekend. Both my MIL and my husband's aunt have dogs, and my mom volunteers at a shelter so it caused no end of panic. Luckily Maggie was the only one to come down with it, but we felt so guilty about her being in the vet's office and possibly infecting other dogs. We had to take her back to the same vet that caused her to get Parvo, as they're the only hospital for 150 miles. Our new vet mostly treats large animals, and didn't want to spread the virus.

How's your puppy doing?

tripple ditto to this. things like rubbing alcohol, amonia and such will NOT kill parvo. Only specific things will kill this virus. It can live Years in the ground also. The vet I work for uses special cleaners and bleach for parvo.

GOODD NEWS so far !!! The vet called a while ago and she is doing great.

She had no diarrhea or vomiting all night and when they came in this morning she was up happy and barking wanting to play. He said he would keep her today and feed he small meals all day to see how it goes and she may come home late afternoon.......

OXINE

Or, ask your vet what they use to sanitize their facility. There is another thing called d-256 made by vedco, but it is green in color, it could stain.

we have lost dogs with parvo and saved them....parvo is the worst during those hot dog days of summer......it can live in the ground outside for 7 years....best to get the 3 vaccinations....that is what we have to do but we give our own shots and the ones who gets vaccinated has never got parvo or corona.....we had a corona problem this last summer and we pulled thru 2 pups one died and the ones we had here already vaccinated never got it.....

to be honest once you have parvo on your property you have it, you can bleach the area where she poops to help reduce the number of the virus but parvo isn't killed by heat or cold and can live in the soil for yrs and yrs, plus when your dog comes home it will still shed the virus for weeks to come, so from now on everytime you get a puppy it needs to be vaccinated and not taken to the bathroom at the same place the other dog did, i was a vet tech for 8 yrs and i also have a dog that had parvo, i raise dachshunds and knock on wood, they don't touch the ground until they have been vaccinated at least twice, even then they can still get parvo usually not as bad if they do, i've seen dogs do horrible and die, i've seen them linger until they did die, i've seen them at the point of death and bounce back, it's just a horrible virus, i've seen puppies slough their intestines, talk about gross, prevention is the main issue, vaccinate your puppies, i know breeders who don't because of the whole unnatural effects of it, but when you watch a puppy die, don't ya think you would give them a vaccine to prevent this, now what i do with my dogs is i give them the initial puppy series and then booster in 1 yr then i don't vaccinate ever again, they have shown titers are just as high in dogs that have had been vaccinated that way than dogs that have a booster every year, hope this helps and i hope the puppy bounces back:)

ps most vets use bleach, it's cheap and it works
