I attended one of Parelli's seminars. Very interesting. I was more interested in the horses than with the man himself. LOL His black stallion is gorgeous and such a showboater. You could tell that the horse was having a blast.

When I train horses, I just kind of use my "own" way, but I've watched others train, so "my" way is what I've seen work in the past and what I feel comfortable with. That being said, horses "are" individuals with different histories and personalities, different things work with different horses. My primary method revolves around the saying "MY way, is easier than YOUR way horse". While I don't hurt my horses, I do make it harder and more work to do something bad than good. They get the point relatively quickly. LOL

For instance, we took in a rescue mare that would cow kick you clear across the backyard. One of our boarders at the time, insisted that he could 'break' her of that habbit, but I could expect her to have rope burns from where he put her on the ground. I told him he better not touch that horse. (He later did, got himself kicked twice and busted a light on his truck

). He then informed me that there was no way to cure a horse of cow kicking and that any babies she had would do it too.

My husband and I work in a team to make is safer and we took that mare into the round pen. Went to pick up those hind feet, first with a rope and the moment the horse tensed, she IMMEDIATELY had to work the pen. After a couple laps(all the while working on her clicking and whoa's) we would stop her again and repeat the process. This time she allowed him to pick up her feet, but after a couple of minutes jerked it out of his hands. Again, we made her go around and work. A few minutes later, we stopped her once again, and she let us pick up all four feet and never EVER gave us an issue with her feet for the few years we kept her.

I used to watch his show and felt there were a few things I could take from the program but lately find him completely boring and self promoting. Have yet to see him really get anything real done with a horse. I cant stand the language (specific games) that he speaks of and his wife always playing horsey with some one on the lead shank is obnoxious.

Others may think he is the greatest but I take very little from him.

I think there is something to be learned from a lot of the clinicians out there if you understand the horse and work with that. There are a lot of folks that see and hear the mechanics but never get the timing or really learn to read a horse.

The whole concept of applying pressure and taking it off when a horse responde correctly is a very key part of training. My father was a pretty fair horsemand but his methods were rougher than comforatable for me. I take what I can from many
