I've been a member of Ebay and Paypal for about 7 years. Today I get an email from Paypal telling me that they're now going to start to hold my buyers money for 21 days or until I get positive feedback from the buyers. The email also said, "You've done nothing wrong, this is just a new policy that we are now putting into effect."

I've never had a formal complaint against me for all the years I've been selling and now this. So my buyers purchase eggs from me and I have to wait 21 days to get paid. Does that seem right? Has anyone else gotten this email?

They said it's only for sellers that sell certain items ...ie...such as eggs, travel services and tickets and a few others. And the policy went into effect TODAY. No notice that it was going to start. So I sold 4 dozen eggs between last night and today and yet I won't get paid for 21 days. This is really going to hurt us small sellers.

I hate that Paypal is such a monopoly! They take money from us when we sell and then they take money from us when our buyers pay us and now they'll hold onto our monies for up to 21 days (unless you get positive feedback from the buyer before the 21 days.)

What a PITA this is going to be!

I don't have a paypal account, and I'm so glad I don't! That sounds ridiculous to me.

I always ask the seller if they will accept a money order, and if they don't, then I just go else where. Ebay told me that its up the the seller, if they'ed accept money orders or not. I feel bad for you. You should't have to wait so long for your money. After all, ebay is getting theirs right away!

did the e-mail start off by saying dear Paypal member? OR dear (insert your real name here)

I got one about a month back that said the same thing but it was addressed dear PP member.... and it was a spoof.... and then a week later I gor another saying that my account was suspended due to a complaint and i had to log on to see what it was about... and again it was sent to dear PP member...

Nope, it wasn't a spoof email. It came directly from Paypal with my name.

So I went to Paypal and sure enough the monies that I'm due from my auctions from last night and today are "pending". I usually take my shipping money out of the payments and print my shipping online. I'm not going to be able to do that any longer.

I'm know that I'm small fries as far as Ebay & Paypal are concerned but this really doesn't seem fair at all.

This is the actual email from them.

"Hello Laurie Kombert,

An explanation of payment holds and how they apply to you

Your business is important to us. That's why we're committed to providing a fast and secure payment service to you and your customers while keeping our prices competitive. We're also committed to clearly communicating changes to our policies and procedures. So, we're writing to let you know about a change to your PayPal account.

From now on, payments you receive will be temporarily held in a pending balance. This pending balance helps make sure that you'll have enough money in your account to cover any buyer claims.

Payments will be held in a pending balance for up to 21 days. For example, if you receive a $100 payment (after fees), the $100 will be held in a pending balance for up to 21 days. After 21 days, the money will be available for withdrawal.

The money may be released sooner if:
We can confirm that the item was delivered
Your buyer leaves positive feedback. (Applies only to eBay items.)
We know this is a change in the way we do business with you and we hope you understand that you haven't done anything wrong. In deciding whether to apply payment holds, we review many factors including transaction activity, business type, and customer disputes.

Payment holds are often applied to new sellers who don't have a lot of transaction history, sellers in traditionally high risk industries (for example, travel or tickets), or sellers who've had a high number of claims filed against them.

If you're a PayPal Money Market Fund customer, you'll continue to earn interest on the total balance while your money is held.

To learn more about this policy change, please read our latest funds availability policy

We appreciate your business and look forward to a continued partnership. Don't hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Thanks,"

I've never had a claim against me, ever in all the years I've been selling. I'm not a new seller either. When I emailed them, they told me that I was in a high risk industry...ie..selling eggs. That's why this new policy.

They weren't clear about payments from outside of Ebay such as from BYC or Eggbid. I asked but didn't get an answer to that question. I plan on calling them in the morning.

This really stinks!

no kidding that stinks....so if a buyer messes up incubating half way through they can just say the eggs were no good and not have to pay. If that is the way they are going to do it then I will be doing money orders or bank checks only when I eventually get around to selling eggs

It is not unusual for sellers to state that they will not accept PayPal.

I HATE Paypal....and thank goodness we don't use them anymore...if a purchase is only by paypal, I pass it right up! They are about as ridiculous as their outrageous fees!

Paypal just did the same thing to me. They don't even give the reason, but all of the "possible reasons" for this change of status do not apply to me. And it is for real. I called Paypal and talked to them. However, they told me that transactions outside of Ebay are not held for 21 days or until positive feedback is sent. In that case, the $ is held for 24-48 hours. I really hate paypal, and I used to love it.

Well I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one. I was only accepting PayPal but no more. In the meantime, PayPal earns interest on our monies that they're holding.

I need to make sure that I change my payment status. I'll now be accepting Money Orders and Personal Checks.

Laurie

All my ebay items get a delivery comformation # so that would take care of getting the money faster.Since paypal said-->
The money may be released sooner if:
We can confirm that the item was delivered
